Fortnite update delayed – here's when v28.20 and TMNT event is expected

Fortnite's second major update of the current season was expected to arrive later today, but it's seemingly been delayed, with the update now expected to drop later this week.

Fortnite – as well as its sub modes Lego Fortnite, Fortnite Festival, and Rocket Racing – were all expected to experience downtime today ahead of update v28.20, but Epic Games hasn't confirmed the usual downtime schedule before the update, so it's likely we'll have to wait until later this week for the update to drop. Ahead of the update, rumours suggest Fortnite could team up with Nickelodeon, as rumour has it that the next update is going to bring a new round of Fortnite x Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles content, and that it will include a Shredder Skin and a new event pass for players to work through.

Here's when we expect Fortnite update v28.20 to arrive in-game later this week.

Fortnite update delayed – new expected release date

With Fortnite update v28.20 not going live on Tuesday as anticipated, we expect the next Fortnite update will finally go live on Thursday, January 8. Usually, Fortnite updates happen on a Tuesday, as was the case with Fortnite update v28.10, but we have seen updates happen later in the week, notably during the Fortnite OG season last year.

And, as always, we'd expect Fortnite to experience downtime in preparation for update v28.20 later this week, with the downtime expected to start from 8am GMT / 3am EST /12am PST and last until around 12pm GMT / 7am EST / 4am PST.

We already know about some early Fortnite patch notes for update v28.20 thanks to the Fortnite Trello Board, and now the prominent Fortnite leaker ShiinaBR has also made a Twitter post, revealing some more of what we can expect in this week's update, which is as follows:

• New cosmetics

• Unvaulted "Pizza Party" Item
• Augments could return
  

• TMNT event skins

• TMNT Mythics and map changes

• Added shop tabs

• Possibly other new collabs

Even though we won't know everything included in the new update until the Fortnite 28.20 patch notes drop, ShiinaBR is usually a great source of what's to come.
