Now the transfer window has ended, Liverpool bosses will be able to put their full focus into their search for a successor to Jurgen Klopp.

The German manager has announced he will leave his role at Anfield at the end of the season, along with his coaching staff. It leaves club chiefs with a huge hole to fill in the dugout, with Klopp having led the Reds during a stunning period of success.

Several frontrunners have already emerged, including Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso and Brighton manager Roberto de Zerbi. The latter has now spoken of his talks with the Seagulls over a new contract.

Those talks come as Liverpool appointed a baseball guru to help lead the search for Klopp's successor. Here, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest Liverpool news.

Klopp payout avoided

Liverpool will avoid a mega-money payout to Jurgen Klopp when the German leaves his role as manager. Klopp is understood to earn around £15million per year after signing a contract extension in 2022.

That would put him in line for a huge payout if he were to be sacked by the Reds. But with the German announcing his departure on his own terms, that means Liverpool will be safe from handing him a compensation package.

The same situation occurred at both of Klopp's previous jobs at Mainz and Borussia Dortmund. He did not seriously think about waiting to be sacked by Liverpool and so will leave without any form of a payout.

Baseball guru appointed to lead manager search

Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group have appointed Theo Epstein as a senior adviser. Epstein has won two baseball World Series as the general manager, the equivalent of a director of football, at the Boston Red Sox and the Chicago Cubs.

He has now become a minority owner in FSG and will provide guidance on the group's sports teams. It is expected he will work closely with Mike Gordon, who is spearheading the search for Klopp's successor.

Epstein said: “I am thrilled and honoured to return to FSG. This is truly a unique opportunity for me - a chance to partner with people who mean a lot to me; a chance to challenge myself in new arenas; and a chance to use my experience and perspective to help others succeed and win at the highest level."

De Zerbi opens up on talks

Roberto de Zerbi has insisted there is "no news" over his future at Brighton. The Italian has been linked with the Liverpool job once Klopp departs and has now admitted that there is nothing to report from his contract talks with the Seagulls.

"No, there is no news," he told Cronache Di Spogliatoio. "My focus is just on the last part of the season. We are going to compete and to play a historic part of the season. We compete in the Premier League to reach the same target as last season (qualifying for Europe).
