Exact date for heavy rain as Met Office issues yellow weather warning
Brits will be hit with a downpour in coming days which will wreak havoc on travel plans and potentially even damage to buildings.
The Met Office has warned of rain and the potential for floods, with meteorologists issuing a yellow alert for Sunday and Monday for one part of the UK. A deluge of 170mm could hit parts of Argyll, Lochaber and Wester Ross in Scotland in the downpout, weather experts said.
Meteorologists warned of the potential for homes and businesses flooded amidst the warnings, which come into force from 6pm Sunday evening lasting until 9pm on Monday. A spokesperson said there was a "slight chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services" and that "spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures".
Some rural communities in the Highlands could even be cut off by flooding, the Met Office warned. The Environment Agency currently has several flood warnings out for different parts of the UK, including in East Yorkshire, Gloucestershire and Berkshire, although none currently for the area affected by the latest Met Office warning.
David Hayter from the Met Office said: "There’s likely to be some persistent rain for northern Scotland – perhaps wintry at times for Shetland - on Sunday. The rain will slowly push north through Sunday, before pivoting and then returning south later on Monday.
Gales, snow and rain to batter country today with 80mph wind gusts
Two weather warnings have been issued for rain in West Scotland (Met Office)"Some southern parts of the warning area may see a drier interlude for a time on Monday. There is some uncertainty as to how far north the rain gets.
"Around 40-75 mm of rain may fall quite widely in the warning areas, but there is potential for 120-170 mm in the wettest areas. This is perhaps most likely in parts of Argyll, Lochaber and Wester Ross."
It comes as warnings were issued for several days of wintry weather next week, including the possibility of snow for some Brits. Sara Thornton, Director of Weathertrending.com, told the Mirror: "If you're hoping for some snow like I am, don't lose heart.
"Before things settle down, there is some colder air pushing into the north of the UK later next week, bringing a few possible days of wintry weather to Scotland and northern England. No firm forecasts on that yet but watch this space!"
