Campbell 'Pookie' Puckett has apologised for her actions in old images

TikTok influencer Campbell 'Pookie' Puckett has tried to defend herself after coming under intense fire following a number of shocking photos resurfacing.

The social media star, 32, and her husband Jett, who regularly post about their lives, went viral after sharing an "outfit of the day" video on the platform. The clip was uploaded on January 14 and has accumulated over seven million views, with many people creating parodies of the footage.

However, Campbell has since had to apologise to her followers after past images of her "cosplaying as a slave owner" were brought to the attention of her fans. The images, taken when Campbell was 20, have caused outrage online. The shots in question see Campbell dressed in "southern plantation glam" as she attended a party. Posted to Reddit, the snaps showed Campbell at what appeared to be an Antebellum-themed party at the University of Mississippi.

The plantation-themed parties are inspired from the period before the American Civil War, and are celebrations of the Antebellum-era south and of the Confederacy. They cause huge controversy as they are seen to celebrate a time in which wealthy white plantation owners had the majority of power in the area and often owned Black slaves.

Campbell wore a lacy pink-and-white ball gown and posed for the camera alongside others in similar outfits. The images divided people's opinions online, but many were fierce in their criticism. One Reddit user wrote: "5th generation southerner here. I don’t care if it’s common, old south parties are morally reprehensible. There are literally thousands of other ways to get drunk in college without cosplaying as a slave owner."

The images weren't the only controversial snaps to appear, either. Shortly after the resurfaced plantation-themed party images caused uproar, an image of Campbell and Jett previously dressed as Melania and Donald Trump was shared. Again, the images split the opinion of users online.

Since the backlash, Campbell has posted to social media to share her apologies for the images. On her Instagram Stories, she wrote: "As some of you may have seen, some old photos of mine recently resurfaced. At the time these photos were taken, I was 20. I didn't fully understand the impact of my actions the way I do now, 12 years later. I fully apologize for the harm this may have caused for some and take full responsibility.

"Jett and I love sharing our lives with you all and getting to know our community on such an intimate level. Because we live our lives so publicly, everything is on the internet, even my mistakes."

She concluded: "We hope to continue to bring you with us on our journey as we continue to learn and grow." Campbell. who has 207,000 followers on Instagram, has since seemingly moved on from the incident as she shared the couple's latest trip to Aspen on her Story.
