Heartless stepdad tricked woman into signing over mum’s fortune and spent it
A fraudster tricked a woman into handing over her dying mum’s fortune - and splashed it on his new girlfriend, holidays, a car, and a hot tub.
Patrycja Miszczuk’s mum, Anna Miszczuk, 45, was diagnosed with cancer and tragically died just two months later back in 2019. But before she had even died, Patrycja’s stepdad Krzysztof Baczyński, 40, had already begun spending some of the £200,000 insurance payout.
The vile fraudster was later found guilty of fraud and jailed - but not until after he’d burned through all the money in less than a year, despite it being due for Patrycja and her sibling. Baczyński splashed the cash on luxury holidays and a hot tub after he tricked the now 33-year-old into signing over trustee of the insurance policies to him.
The money was spent on trips to Tenerife, Poland and Russia with his new lover. Baczyński also invited Patrycja on some holidays, reportedly claiming his business was footing the bill. He led his step-children to believe he was looking after the money, but instead, invested in a shop and used some of the money to support his failing business, which was part of a cosmetics pyramid scheme.
He was caught after he took pictures of himself and his new partner "living it up" at fancy restaurants and enjoying themselves in their hot tub.

Following a trial at Northampton Crown Court, Baczyński, of Wellingborough, Northants., was found guilty of one count of fraud. He was cleared of another count of fraud by false representation. He was jailed for four years on Monday 4 December and told he would be subject to a Proceeds of Crime Act hearing in a bid to claw back some of the money.
His Honour Judge David Herbert KC said: “The money was released into your account with the knowledge of your step-daughter. Both her and her brother were unaware that you began to spend the money in the way that you did. I am quite satisfied that it was Anna’s wish that her son should receive all of that money. The evidence in the trial was that money would be shared with his sister.”

The money had been due to go to Patrycja and her brother (Patrycja Miszczuk / SWNS)Now Patrycja has revealed how the incident has “torn her family apart”. Speaking to The Sun, she said: “I don't know how he could do something like this to us. I have known him for most of my life - I never thought he was capable of this. Mum would have been so devastated if she knew. This money was for our future and now we have nothing left from it. It's not just a couple hundred pounds he took from us - it was everything."
She also explained how, despite being not sure of her stepdad at first, she accepted Baczyński after she saw how happy he made her mum. Back in 2017, Anna began feeling tired all the time, and soon, after several tests, was soon diagnosed with stage four lymphoma cancer. By the time the mum was diagnosed, it had already spread too far to be cured.

But Anna had taken out a life insurance policy which would pay out £200,000 to Patrycja and her brother when he turned 25. However, Baczyński drained the money and put it in his own account. Despite this Patrycja claims she has no idea how he managed it, and doesn’t remember signing anything.
She said she thought the money had just been waiting for them, but meanwhile Baczyński was spending it. She said: "He invited me and my brother on holiday too - we met his new girlfriend for the first time in Russia. I just thought his business was doing well. He told us they were paying for everything, and I believed him.”

They alerted the police, leading to Baczyński’s arrest.
