Kate's mum 'at helm' with George, Charlotte and Louis amid daughter's recovery
The Princess of Wales' mum is sure to be "at the helm" helping out with childcare as her daughter recovers from surgery, according to a royal expert.
It's been more than a week since Kate's abdominal operation at the London Clinic, where she has remained as she recovers from the procedure. The 42-year-old princess is expected to remain there for between 10 and 14 days in total and is stepping back from royal duties until after Easter. Prince William has also temporarily stepped back from his royal role and cleared his diary to care for Kate and look after their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

She told HELLO!: "The Middletons are a really close family and Carole is a very hands-on grandmother, and I'm sure she will be at the helm. She often picks the kids up. Pippa has children of her own now, but I'm sure she will help by offering to have the kids round for tea and that kind of thing."
Meanwhile, Ingrid added that it was significant that William had taken time off from royal duties in the early days of Kate's recovery. She added: "William is incredibly supportive as a husband. It's pretty unusual for the Prince of Wales to cancel engagements because his wife isn't well – that certainly wouldn't have happened in the past – but he's a modern man whose family is more important to him than anything else."

Kate with her children George, Charlotte and Louis (PA)Kensington Palace announced news of the princess's surgery last Wednesday, with Buckingham Palace sparking a double royal health scare just 90 minutes later by revealing the King was preparing for treatment for an enlarged prostate. The King has also cancelled engagements ready for his corrective procedure in hospital this week.
Meanwhile, Kate was last week said to be "doing well", with William spending time at her bedside. She is not expected to return to official duties until after Easter. A royal source told The Sunday Times the Waleses have switched to "100 per cent family first, day job second".
Aides insist the princess will be out of sight over the next few months but is likely to be working behind the scenes. "Her passion for the early years is clear – there will be a huge continuation of that campaign and she will be keen to be out continuing that conversation with the nation as soon as possible," the source told the newspaper.
Kensington Palace has not revealed further details of the princess’s condition but confirmed it was non-cancerous. A spokesman said: "The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate. She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible, and her wish that her personal medical information remains private."
