A mum has shared her horror after realising something distubring was happening when her son used a walkie-talkie on holiday.

Mum Faye enjoys taking her two children Ari, eight, and Owen, six, on caravan holidays as she loves the freedom they have on the campsite to play with other children- and thought it was innocent enough to let the kids have walkie-talkies while playing together.

However, she was horrified when she realised a man was speaking to the children on their walkie-talkie channel and had instructed them to leave where they were and go to the playground instead.

The Aussie mum told Kidspot that she was sat with the other parents, with the third walkie-talkie next to them so they could hear the kids speaking on them. One of the parents then claimed they heard a voice on the walkie-talkie that didn't sound like their kids. As it raised an alarm, Faye then called Ari back over.

She then realised it was a lot more dangerous than she anticipated. When she asked her son what happened, she revealed: "He said that someone had come onto the channel and told him to go to the playground. So he went there - which was right next to our own caravan, but we were at someone else's site at the time - thinking it was one of the parents messing around."

However, when he responded and told the mysterious person he was there, they instructed him to go to his caravan. Faye added: "Ari responded, saying, 'I'm here, where are you?' And he said something like, 'I'm the bald guy'. And that was it." Luckily that was all there was on the sinister encounter, but Faye and her husband searched the campsite for any insight into who it could have been.

"Anyone can jump on that channel, and what I think happened is someone was scanning it and heard kids' voices and started talking to them. They would have to be in close proximity because they don't have a long range but we had no idea if they could see us or how far away they were. There were so many questions that came out of that experience I'd hate to think what could have happened if we hadn't intercepted it, or if they were watching us."

She admitted that she never thought something like this could happen with a walkie-talkie and called it a "wake-up call".
