William's romantic gesture for Kate Middleton ended with 'angst and anger'
Prince William and Kate Middleton announced their engagement in November 2010, after eight years together. A short time later, the happy couple sat down for their first-ever joint interview, giving fans a fascinating insight into their sweet romance as they spoke to ITV's Tom Bradby.
William and Kate discussed a range of topics - from the engagement in Kenya, to Kate's first meeting with the royal family. They also opened up about the start of their romance while studying together at St Andrews University.
"We were friends for over a year first and it just sort of blossomed from then on," the Prince revealed. "We just spent more time with each other, had a good giggle, had lots of fun and realised we shared the same interests and had a really good time.
"She's got a really naughty sense of humour, which kind of helps me because I've got a really dry sense of humour, so it was good fun, we had a really good laugh and things happened."
The pair decided to move into a flat together, along with other friends - and Kate was asked whether William cooked or did anything useful around the house.

"Define useful," William quipped before turning to his future wife, who admitted that his romantic gestures sometimes went awry.
"He did cook for me quite a bit at university, and he would always come with a bit of angst and a bit of anger if something had gone wrong and I would have to wander in and save something that was going," she said.
"So, being honest, is that a skill that's declining over time or improving?" Tom asked. "I would say I'm getting better at cooking. Kate would say I'm getting a lot worse," the Prince replied.
"I don't give him enough chance to practice," Kate admitted. "No, that is true," William agreed. "I get quite lazy about cooking because when I come back from work it is the last thing I want to do, really is spend loads of time cooking.
"When I was trying to impress Kate I was trying to cook these amazing fancy dinners and what would happen was I would burn something, something would overspill, something would catch on fire and she would be sitting in the background trying to help, and basically taking control of the whole situation, so I was quite glad she was there at the time."
"Slightly awkward for the other flatmates?" Tom asked. "No, to be honest they were used to it, watching things catching fire, they found it very amusing," the Prince admitted.
