Anthony Joshua lost out on £7million of earnings due to huge tax bill
Anthony Joshua enjoyed huge financial success last year - evidenced by a whopping £7million tax bill.
Joshua went into 2023 on the back of consecutive losses to Oleksandr Usyk as he lost his unified heavyweight belts to the Ukrainian and failed to win them back in their rematch. 'AJ' began his redemption arc with a decision win over Jermaine Franklin in April before knocking out Robert Helenius in August and Otto Wallin in December.
Accounts from Joshua's Sparta Promotions company have now revealed he earned a massive £41.3m in the 2022/23 financial year. That figure that does not include his paydays from the Helenius and Wallin fights and it's expected that 'AJ' earned around £10m for both of those wins.

Dividing the amount he earned over the course of a year, Joshua took home a pre-tax amount of just over £113,000-a-day. The Brit's profits have unsurprisingly come with a massive tax bill as Joshua was required to pay around £7m on his income across the financial year.
Eddie Hearn opens talks for Anthony Joshua vs Francis Ngannou heavyweight fight
Sparta Promotions now has a total equity of just under £130m, a figure that will inevitably skyrocket as 'AJ' prepares for another big-money fight against former UFC champion Francis Ngannou in March. Joshua is expected to earn just over £30m for the fight and has been promised an undisputed heavyweight title shot against either Tyson Fury or Usyk if he wins.
'AJ' was originally expected to face longtime rival Deontay Wilder on March 8, but the American scuppered plans of the fight when he lost to Joseph Parker last month. Joshua's promoter Eddie Hearn is confident his man can beat both Ngannou and Fury as he said on The MMA Hour: "The only thing that’s going to change is Ngannou replaces Wilder.
"I truly believe AJ will become undisputed heavyweight champion. I love Usyk but part of me wants Tyson to win that fight so we can potentially move. Criticism is out there all the time but he is in a great place, he is really confident. Even now with Ben Davison [new trainer], they like the Usyk fight now. Ben really believe that AJ can beat Usyk."
