Harry and Meghan ‘had so much potential’ as senior royals, expert says
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle “had so much potential” as senior royals, and should have never left the Royal Family, an expert has claimed.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced they would be stepping down as senior working members of the monarchy in January 2020, and relocated to Los Angeles in order to focus on a career making money in the private sector. Since then, they’ve signed million dollar deals with streaming giant Netflix, but their popularity has taken a huge blow following the release of Harry’s explosive memoir Spare last year.
The book, which detailed his account of life as a working royal, caused controversy and further deepened the rift between Harry and his father, King Charles, as well as his older brother, Prince William. Royal biographer Robert Hardman, who wrote the new book Charles III: The Making of a King, said while a reunion is more than likely in the future, Harry is making it difficult as he’s making the situation “all about me, me, me”.

He believes Harry and Meghan, who live in Montecito, California with their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, will keep coming back” to the Royal Family, but won’t be a part of the “royal working unit”. Robert revealed King Charles had long-term plans for Harry and Meghan, along with William and Kate Middleton, as he imagined the future of the Royal Family, but all that is left now is sadness over the situation.

I mean, when you look back on that sunny day in May 2018 and that sense of promise, all they were going to be doing for the Commonwealth,” Robert recalled. “Fundamentally, I think everyone's so sad, I think they’re beyond being angry. Everyone would like to see some sort of rapprochement.”
His biography about the new monarch has been labelled an “authoritative” account of Charles’ first year on the throne, and includes details of the long-running row over the naming of Harry and Meghan’s daughter. It was widely believed the late Queen had given her blessing to her beloved grandson, who had asked if they could give their daughter her childhood nickname of Lilibet. However, Robert alleged an aide recalled seeing the Queen “as angry as I’ve ever seen her” when it was announced by the Sussexes that she had given them her blessing.
