MrBeast, the most popular YouTuber in the world, revealed he bagged more than £196,600 from a video on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Previously, MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, claimed it was not worth sharing new content directly on the Elon Musk-owned platform due to the small amount of ad income. Although he said that even one billion views wouldn't make it worthwhile to post videos on the platform, he decided to try an experiment last week.

He posted an old video on X since he was "super curious" about the potential ad money. That post pulled in over 155 million hits and earned him just over £206,800, as shown in a screenshot he shared. Many industry experts have been closely observing this experiment since X has been struggling financially since Elon Musk took over in late 2022.

Traffic to the site has also gone down. There have been several spats between Mr Musk and advertisers, with many pulling out due to concerns about the "absolute free speech" policy permitting controversial content. The boss of Tesla and SpaceX has added new features to the platform to increase user interaction, including premium subscriptions and sharing ad revenue with content creators a system already used by sites like YouTube.

However, MrBeast called the earnings from his video "a bit of a facade", due to his own fame, and hinted that other users might not see similar profits. He said: "My first X video made over 250,000 dollars. But it's a bit of a facade. Advertisers saw the attention it was getting and bought ads on my video (I think) and thus my revenue per view is prob higher than what you'd experience."

MrBeast has a whopping 234 million subscribers on his YouTube page, and some reckon he made more than 80 million dollars (almost £63 million) in 2023.
