When it comes to tackling tedious household chores, nothing's worse than a stubborn stain on your sofa that just won’t budge.

Fortunately, a cleaning expert has shared her handy hack for banishing unsightly marks on your couch with ease - and it only sets you back by £1.14. Home interior guru Anna Louisa shared her simple trick on social media, which requires a saucepan lid and some kitchen cupboard essentials.

Taking to TikTok, under the username @anna_louisa_at_home, she said: "Add one tablespoon of bicarbonate of soda, one teaspoon of dish soap, and warm water to a bowl." You will then need to drench your cloth in the bowl, before ringing it out.

Use the cloth to cover the pan lid, it should mould easily around the shape, but you can use a hair band to secure it firmly in place. "Use it to scrub your sofa, rinsing and repeating every now and then," added Anna.

After scrubbing the sofa, Anna pointed out the dirt that was left on her cloth, saying: "Wait until you see the colour of the cloth. Use this cleaning hack for a quick refreshen."

The viral video has amassed an impressive 9,547 likes, and followers flocked to the comments to question the content creator. One user penned: "How do you prevent white powder residue when it dries up?" To which Anna responded: "I never have any issues with white powder residue."

A second praised: "Love this idea," to which Anna acknowledged: "I use it to clean my stairs and headboard too." Another quizzed: "Was this leather?" Anna wrote back with: "No it’s fabric. This method isn’t recommended for leather unfortunately."

In response to the question, one generous follower dished out some helpful advice for cleaning leather, writing: "The best thing to do for leather is to use a very small drop of dish soap, warm water, and dip a cloth in it. You’re going to lightly scrub with one cloth and dry with another. Lightly buff with the dry cloth. Then, condition the leather afterwards with a leather conditioner and buff out the excess."

Bicarbonate of soda can be used for tackling a whole range of household problems, because it is a gentle abrasive that helps to eliminate tough stains. The versatile product can be bagged for 65p at Lidl, while the washing up liquid can be picked up for 49p - a combined price of just £1.14.
