Homeless man rescues puppies and leaves them at shelter with touching note
A homeless man this week delivered a litter of puppies to an animal shelter after finding the mother, who he would often feed, dead by the road.
Five tiny, black puppies greeted officials of the Fayetteville Animal Protection Society at the organisation's doorstep after frigid winter storms hit the area earlier this month. The pup's had a note from the homeless man who found them, which explained why he couldn't care for the young pooches.
The destitute individual wrote that he was a homeless man who would feed a stray dog and her puppies. “Please help! I found these puppies, sadly, after noticing a local stray dog that I would often feed when I could dead by the road… I’m sorry for leaving them like this, but I myself am homeless and cannot afford to care for them,” read the note in part.

Jackie Peery said the five puppies were sluggish upon arrival due to the cold and malnutrition (WYMT)The man said his heart "shattered" for the dog and her kin. That's why he went searching for the puppies after discovering the mother's corpse. He goes on to explain how he wanted to give the puppies a chance their mother, and himself, "were never given." He acknowledged how inconsiderate it was to put the shelter in this position, but then suggests he had no other choice.

"Please do not think poorly of me, but it felt wrong, leaving them alone in the cold, waiting on a mother that would not be coming home,” read the note in part.
The homeless man explained he searched for the puppies after finding their mother dead by the road (WYMT)Officials at the animal shelter didn't seem to mind. Fayetteville Animal Protection Society Executive Director Jackie Peery suggested the homeless man saved the pooch's lives, who animal professionals believe are about seven weeks old. The litter is comprised of three girls and two boys. Jackie said the puppies were slow and sluggish when they first arrived likely due to the cold weather and malnutrition.
However, now he says "they are really romping around" after being given food and shelter. She noted how the man was so compassionate, he braved the cold to save a bunch of puppies while he was going through hardships.
The shelter wrote on Facebook the puppies will get the love and care they need (WYMT)“To think that he himself doesn’t have a lot, but he was using whatever resources he had to feed this stray mom. It was only out of his heart that he did the best thing for them,” Jackie said. The shelter made a post about the man's deed on Facebook where it promised to shower the puppies with "the love and care they deserve."
The kind act has attracted the attention of many community members who wish to know the homeless man's identity, so they could offer him help too. The shelter said it's been unable to find out, according to Jackie. As for the five pups, they will be up for adoption in a few weeks after they undergo vaccines, microchips and de-worming.
