A woman has divided opinion after revealing how often her friend washes her bra.

Our bras not only do the job of supporting our breasts, but they have to do it under high-moisture conditions. So it makes sense that we should wash our lingerie regularly to stay hygienic and smell fresh. But, exactly how often should we be putting a bras wash on?

Everyone has different cleaning habits and while one person might wear their bra for hours throughout the day, others might only wear one for a short period of time. One woman was left stunned when her friend revealed that she does not wash her bra very often.

Taking to TikTok, Desyr shared on her account @desyr.reviews the controversial confession. She said: "My friend once told the group chat that she washes her bras once a year. I'm now just curious, how often does everyone wash their bras? I need to know what kind of standard is amongst women everywhere."

She continued: "What is the common bra washing duration? Because apparently we are not all the same."

The video raked in thousands of views and responses, and one individual said: "Change all underwear everyday and wash. Oh my god, what is wrong with people?" Another added: "I change my bra everyday. You change your underwear everyday - a bra is underwear. Imagine the boob sweat. I only wear clothes once and wash."

But another said: "Every one to two months - when it looks or smells dirty." "Every three days," added another. Sharing what they do, one other commented: "I just wash them all together once a month, but rotate between six or seven of my favourites."

Another advised: "I hand wash them and they last ten times better. Maybe once a month...but wear a few on rotation."

Dr Jen Caudle, a TV health expert who garners millions of views on her TikTok videos, advised changing your underwear daily for health reasons as well as "personal practice". In a recent post, Jen said: "Changing your underwear every day helps potentially lower the risk of moisture being trapped in your genital area and developing bacterial yeast infections and stuff like that."

Dr Caudle added that irregularly changing your underwear cause increase the risk of skin conditions such as eczema. Curry's recently surveyed more than 2,000 UK residents on their underwear habits. The majority of women (81 per cent) said they change their undies daily, with one nine per cent admitted they wait until they've achieved a week's worth of wear.

Everyday Health reports bras should be washed after two to four wears. A spokesperson for the health and wellbeing site said: "Bras are repositories for dirt, sweat, and dead skin cells. For best skin health and support, wash them every two to four wears, though increase that to more often if you were sweating a lot when wearing it or are experiencing skin irritation or infection in the area around your breasts."
