This tiny seaside town blessed with beautiful blue waters, colourful seaside houses and three glorious beaches is one of the UK’s most beautiful holiday destinations.

Tenby in south-east Wales looks like something you would find on a Greek Island, if it wasn’t for the 12th century Norman castle overlooking the beach. The picturesque town is home to three beaches including Castle Beach, North Beach, and South Beach. Castle Beach is a sandy beach where holidaymakers can enjoy and ice cream and a paddle on the golden sands. Afterwards why not catch a boat to the neighbouring island of Caldey from the nearby harbour .

Caldey Island is owned by monks and is home to a grand monastery, with day-trippers welcomed onto the island from Easter until October. A 20 minute boat ride from Tenby, the holy island is inhabited by a community of Cistercian monks.

After exploring the Island, why not stop on the relaxing Priory Beach for a dip in the blue waters or simply sit and watch the seabirds, soaking up the tranquillity in this oasis of calm. Back on the mainland any one of Tenby’s three beaches is well worth a visit. Castle Beach has a blue flag and is perfect for paddling with an easy access slipway.

The friendly fishing boats bobbing in nearby Tenby harbour lend the town its Welsh name, Dinbych-y-Pysgod (Little Fortress of the Fish). You can do some fishing of your own on a mackerel fishing trip which can be arranged with one of the boat operators.

North Beach offers fantastic views out to the open sea with the magnificent Goscar Rock standing as a monument in the sand. Meanwhile the largest of the three, South Beach is just a stone’s throw away with plenty of space to run around and play games.

Away from the water the town itself has plenty to offer as well. There is Tenby Museum and Art Gallery up on Castle Hill. Where, against the spectacular backdrop of the sea views, the town’s museum, established in 1878, has a collection of beautiful Pembrokeshire landscapes and portraits.

On Upper Frog Street, in the centre of town you will find the slender spire of St Mary’s Church which dates back to Tenby’s heyday in the 15th century. Inside you will find 500 year old memorials to former mayors.

You can explore some of Tenby’s more mysterious corners on the chilling Tenby Ghost Walk, which regales visitors with tales of all things paranormal, from ghostly pirates to witches and UFOs with storyteller Marion Davies.

In the summer months Tenby Harbour beach is reserved for human beachgoers but in winter the beach is opened up for dog walkers. And for those who like to stretch their legs there are a host of wonderful walks around the town - a hike north to Saundersfoot on the Pembrokeshire Coast Path offers 4.5 miles of cliff top views including a stunning vista of Saundersfoot Bay from the headland at Monkstone Point.
