A woman has told of her ‘horror and upset’ after her brother tried to hijack her honeymoon with her new husband, causing a fiery family feud when she didn’t agree. After telling how she had been married for almost a year, the 25-year-old woman said that she and her husband hadn’t had a honeymoon at the time as they couldn’t afford it, making the decision to save up so they could go to Hawaii on their one-year anniversary instead.

However, after excitedly telling her family about their plans, she was shocked when her brother said he would be joining them: “He said that Hawaii is a great idea and that he and his boyfriend will join too. I was taken aback when he said that and I told him that this wasn't a random trip and it was supposed to be our honeymoon, but he said that we could do a double couples honeymoon together, so he and his boyfriend could feel the experience of one as well.”

After telling her brother that if he wanted a honeymoon experience he should go on a separate trip rather than hijacking theirs, he told her she was selfish for not sharing the experience. “He said I know that our country doesn't allow gay marriages and so he's never gonna feel the experience of a real honeymoon and this will be as close as he gets,” she told, before admitting that her parents were backing him up as well.

“At this point, I feel like giving my brother the wrong location of our honeymoon, so there's no possibility of him and his boyfriend somehow hijacking it.” Reddit readers were quick to respond, with most being on her side of what had turned from 'honeymoon heaven' into ‘honeymoon hell’.

“Your brother wants a ‘honeymoon experience’ but wants to go with another couple? I don't know what he thinks honeymoons are for, but my wife and I most definitely did not want spectators along on our honeymoon,” said one shocked husband, while another commented: “Honeymoons are not a group event, by design.”

Many others agreed, with one stating: “Honeymoons aren't a 'family and friends' kind of event. They are solely for the married couple. I would change your plans and not tell your family the specifics if your brother insists on going.”

Another commented: “If your brother wants the honeymoon experience, he can go on one. You going alone on your honeymoon doesn't prevent him from going on an (unmarried) honeymoon with his honey. Tell them the travel dates and hotel. Then book something else.”
