Kate hopes her children can carry on as normal as she spends time in hospital following abdominal surgery.

The Princess of Wales had surgery at the London Clinic after being admitted yesterday and will not return to royal duties until after Easter. Wife to future king, Prince William, Kate says she hopes their children can "maintain as much normality" as possible while she recovers.

A statement from Kensington Palace this afternoon said: "Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales was admitted to The London Clinic yesterday for planned abdominal surgery. The surgery was successful and it is expected that she will remain in hospital for ten to fourteen days, before returning home to continue her recovery.

"Based on the current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter. The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate. She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible; and her wish that her personal medical information remains private.

"Kensington Palace will, therefore, only provide updates on Her Royal Highness' progress when there is significant new information to share. The Princess of Wales wishes to apologise to all those concerned for the fact that she has to postpone her upcoming engagements. She looks forward to reinstating as many as possible, as soon as possible."

Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis all attend Lambrook School in Berkshire, with George, 10, Charlotte, eight, and Louis, five, currently in Year Six, Year Four and Year One respectively.

Kate previously shared how hospitals were not “places she wanted to hang around in,” owing to her memories of extreme morning sickness after giving birth to George. She said in 2020 "I think, yeah I did stay in hospital overnight, I remember it was one of the hottest days and night with huge thunderstorms so I didn’t get a huge amount of sleep, but George did which was really great.

"I was keen to get home because, for me, being in hospital, I had all the memories of being in hospital because of being sick so it wasn’t a place I wanted to hang around in. So, I was really desperate to get home and get back to normality."

The Princess of Wales can expect the best treatment available at The London Clinic, a charity since 1935 which operates “as teams of experts with world-class resources dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of medical care.”

Its website says patients “are surrounded by the latest treatments and advice with everything you need to get back to your best health”. The clinic says its “exceptional” patient care is “a way of life” for its teams. “Our nurses, clinicians and support teams are dedicated to the care of a very small number of patients, so they have more time for you,” its website states.

“They’ll be with you every step of the way, tailoring your care around you and giving the peace-of-mind that comes with knowing you’re in the best hands.”
