Cat owner mortified as sneaky feline 'steals stranger's Sunday lunch'

A cat owner was left red-faced when their feline came home with a whole cooked chicken in his mouth - and was too embarrassed to ask the neighbours if anyone was missing their Sunday lunch meat.

Cats can be cunning and sneaky when they want to be, and thanks to being nimble on their paws, they usually can get away with sneaking around. But one mum couldn't believe it when her "greedy" pet came home with a roast chicken. She suspected he snuck into the neighbour's house, as he is known to go into people's homes through open doors and windows, and can't believe what he had swiped.

"My cat has just turned up on my patio with a small roasted chicken in his greedy mouth," the mum wrote in an anonymous confession on Mumsnet. She then admitted it wasn't the first time he has broken into someone else's home and added: "He has form for sneaking into neighbours houses through doors and windows."

Mortified, she was unsure how to tackle the issue, and realised she couldn't ask her neighbours if they were missing a vital part of their Sunday roast as she would have to come clean about her stealing moggie. She further wrote: "I can't really go knocking on doors to ask if anyone is moving missing their dinner. Mortified doesn't cover it."

Now her cat has had a full roast chicken, other mums were quick to chime in with their own hilarious ordeals from thieving cats. One mum said: "My cat ate next door's hamster! Also rocked up with a boiling hot Cornish pasty in her mouth once. Mortified, I never told the neighbour, kinder to let her believe her hamster had escaped and run away."

Another mum chimed: "That's quite a catch. Our cat when I was younger caught a coy carp out of the neighbour's pond. The huge fish was still alive and my poor dad had to take it back in a bucket and apologise." A third added: "My dog ate all the sausages out of somebody's hotpot they had cooking outside their tent. We colluded with our next-door tent to say we’d seen a fox."
