Putin frees evil 'Granny Strangler' from 25-year jail term to fight in Ukraine
A notorious killer nicknamed the “Granny Strangler” was freed from prison by Vladimir Putin to fight in his war - and awarded a medal for “courage”.
Maxim Myshkin, 40, was released early from an almost 25 year sentence despite twice strangling and robbing women pensioners. He had been convicted of killing grandmothers aged 83 and 62, and the attempted murder of an 81-year-old woman who he suffocated and “left for dead”.
Pardoned by Putin using a secret decree so he could be recruited to a mercenary army to fight in Ukraine, he was killed during the war, and posthumously awarded the Order of Courage, records show. The revelation of the dictator freeing such an evil killer comes amid a rising crime wave in Russia as tens of thousands of convicts pardoned by the Kremlin are permitted to leave the war after serving six months, and go home. Murderers and rapists are among those released.
New statistics show that last year 579,089 grave and especially grave crimes were registered in Russia - the highest since 2011. The 83-year-old woman was killed for £63 that he found in her home in Udmurtia republic, where he operated. He stole £27 from the disabled pensioner, aged 62, who he killed. The 81-year-old woman survived by ‘playing dead’, then calling police. He was also linked to other crimes involving elderly women.

"All the attacks carried out by Myshkin involved the same pattern. At night, he entered the house of lonely elderly people and began looking for valuables. When the victims woke up, Myshkin strangled them. The criminal stole money, cell phones, and food from his victims.”

At his conviction in 2009, the jail sentence received major coverage in Russia, but his release was not disclosed. News of his pardon by Putin only emerged from records of the war dead honoured for their “bravery”.
It comes after another notorious murderer and rapist was killed in the same war. The Tulun Maniac - who killed twice and raped a suspected 27 girls and women - had been sentenced to remain in jail until 2045. But Vladimir Putin this year freed the 24-stone sex fiend - bulldozer driver Pavel Shuvalov, 55 - to fight in his war in Ukraine, even though some of his helpless victims were children.
The “mass rapist”, married to a respected and unsuspecting teacher with two children, only lasted three weeks at the front before he was killed in clashes with the Ukrainian army, according to reports.
His death in occupied Luhansk seven months ago was confirmed by three military sources, said a report from Lenta.ru. His body “could not be recovered” from the war zone.
