The Princess of Wales is incredibly popular with royal fans on official visits and thanks to this they have come up with a very sweet Diana-inspired nickname for her.

Kate always wows on official duties, chatting to well-wishers, getting involved with kids and listening intently to the people she meets. The Princess has even said in the past that other members of the Royal Family mock her for the amount of time she spends on walkabouts, always wanting to speak to as many people as possible.

And her kindness and effort during her many visits over the years has earned her a sweet nickname - and it's inspired by her mother-in-law Princess Diana.

William and Harry's mum was often referred to as the People's Princess because of her unprecedented connection with members of the public, as well as her fearless charity work.

Fans have noticed similar traits in Kate, and started to call her the Children's Princess on social media because of her way with her younger fans.

Commenting on a video of Kate posted to mark her landmark Five Questions survey, people in 2020 were quick to suggest the new title. One wrote: "Children's Princess! Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cambridge and our future Queen!"

Another commented: "Duchess Catherine truly is a Children's Princess. Well done everyone who's involved in this great project!!" A third replied: "Beautiful princess Kate, excellent job, wonderful Duchess and Children's Princess."

The perfect example of Kate's natural skills with kids came around the same time when she visited south Wales with Prince William.

The Duchess got into a rather awkward exchange with a three-year-old fan who didn't approve of her outfit choice, claiming she didn't "look like Cinderalla".

Kate met Rhian Costello and her daughter Annabel - who was very excited to meet a "real princess". But was left a tad disappointed as Kate wasn't wearing a Disney-inspired dress, and Kate ended up apologising to her.

Instead of a glitzy gown, Kate opted for a Hobbs coat, Zara dress and an eye-catching Beulah London scarf. Rhian and Annabel waited for the royals at Mumbles pier for an hour, excited to see them.

The mum said: "My daughter loves fairy tales and Cinderella, and she was really excited to meet a real princess.

"Kate said 'I'm really sorry I'm not wearing a pretty dress today' and Annabel said: 'I thought you'd look like Cinderella'."

But Rhian told the Daily Mail at the time that despite not wearing a big Cinderella dress, Annabel was "so taken" with the Duchess. She added: "Annabel was so taken with her, she went up and gave her a huge hug and I was extremely surprised that Kate embraced her in such a way."

The mum said she hoped in 10 years her daughter would look back and realise what an amazing encounter she'd had.
