A soldier called a hero by Prince Harry who lost both legs and his right arm in a bomb blast in Afghanistan has had his stolen prosthetic legs returned.

Outraged Mark Ormrod MBE shared the news on social media after callous criminals raided his vehicle even though it was parked in a disabled bay. The former Marine from Plymouth, Devon, said a bag full of gym clothes was also snatched on Tuesday night.

But now a woman who found them dumped in an alley contacted Mark, 40, and he issued a public thanks to her today. He posted "So on my way out of London tonight I checked my emails and DM's and had messages from a woman who said she'd found my stuff just after 8pm last night in an alley by her house and somehow saw my social media post about it!!! I now have everything back "

Mark, who was praised by Prince Harry for his fund-raising work, was awarded the MBE. He penned a heartfelt letter to Mark thanking him for his decade of service to the Royal Marines Charity after the war hero announced he was to pursue other causes and spend more time with his family.

He's called 'Iron Man' by his three children and in 2021 he was given the 'freedom of Plymouth' by the city council for his charity work. Sharing news of the theft on his social media page yesterday, he wrote "Not the best start to my day!!! Had my car broken into last night."

Mark, of Plymouth, added "They stole a bag full of sweaty gym clothes, another bag with my JiuJitsu Gi in and what's really inconvenient is they took a set of my prosthetic legs! Despite having three cameras pointing at my car I was told by the staff at the hotel that they couldn't see any activity as the view of my car was blocked by another car (might be time to reposition those cameras).

"The sad thing is to think that someone would break into a car parked in a disabled parking space and steal equipment someone needs to live independently and not even care."

He has so far raised more than £500,000 through different challenges to support veterans. His achievements include raising more than £150,000 in a 5km run using prosthetic legs to raise money for the Reorg charity in March. In May he completed a 1km swim and in October he then did a 99.9 mile overnight cycle challenge.

In the early hours of Christmas Eve 2007, Royal Marines Commando Mark was out on a routine foot patrol in the Helmand Province of Afghanistan when he stepped on and triggered an Improvised Explosive Device. In a desperate attempt to save his life, he was airlifted to an emergency field hospital.

An innovative and dangerous procedure carried out on board a Chinook helicopter en route to the hospital saved his life. He was the UK's first triple amputee to survive the Afghanistan conflict.

During his recovery, the doctors told him that he'd never walk again and that he should prepare himself for the rest of his life in a wheelchair. He turned his personal tragedy into a triumph over adversity. Not only did he learn to walk again, with the aid of specialist prosthetic limbs, but in 2017 he took part in the Invictus Games in Toronto. Sheer courage and determination saw him leave the games as an Invictus Champion with a haul of four gold medals.
