An underground parking space in London is on the market for nearly £90,000 despite being too tiny for most cars.

Buyers will have to fork out £40,000 to snap up the spot in London - and then stump up another £46,750 if they plan on keeping it long-term. They are warned it is only suitable for "small" cars and ideally if they are continental-style "left-hand drive."

The parking space is just two metres wide and is accessed through a gap in the wall which would allow drivers of foreign cars to get out if they reversed in.

The parking spot is also just 1.8 metres tall at its lowest point, due to pipes on the wall. Standard SUVs - like a Land Rover Discovery Sport or Jaguar F-Pace - are 2.08m wide, while even saloons like the Audi A4 or VW Passat would be too wide for the tight space at 1.89m.

The average parking space in the UK is 2.4m wide, according to the AA. The underground parking spot is located in wealthy Knightsbridge, west London - a stone's throw from Harrods. An extra £46,750 charge will be to add 999 years to the lease, which is currently set to run out in 2046. On top of that, there is also a £110 annual service charge.

It is being sold by estate agent Nicolas Van Patrick and advertised on Rightmove. The key features are listed as: "Allocated parking space, CCTV, fob gated entry, residential location. Length: 5.4m, width: 2m, height: 2.6m, at its lowest 1.8m up to low pipes running along one side of the space. Service Charge: £110 pa approximately, ground rent: peppercorn. Lease to 2046, extension to 999 years is £46,750 at the time of coming to market."

The property description reads: "A single parking space suitable for a small, ideally left-hand drive vehicle. "The space is within the Rutland Gate car park which has secure gated entry and CCTV. There is access to running water within the car park." The total cost of extending the lease would be £86,750
