A dishwasher debacle has caused a fiery family feud that shows no signs of settling anytime soon. With a family of five living in a tiny trailer, tensions became high after the daughter forgot to load the dishwasher after a long day at work, prompting the stepfather to issue dramatic demands to the girl that she sent to a friend.

With the friend sharing the story online, she told how her 22-year-old best friend Ellie and her stepdad had got into a row the previous day. She said: “She has been working 10-hour night shifts the entire week, and was too tired to load the dishwasher (she just started a new job as a supervisor in a grocery store). He lit into her, calling her fat and lazy and other nasty things. Then, the following morning she sent me a screenshot of the message he sent her.”

She posted the screenshot online, which said: "Ellie, for this incident to be forgotten, you will owe me personally £280 ($350) and we will be adding £300 ($400) to your rent this month. We treat you no different from your brother Ben. If you refuse to accept this punishment then you have a week to move out. The ball is in your court. I expect answers by the time I get home tonight.”

The friend admitted to being furious on her friend’s behalf, after telling how while that would double her rent, her brother, who also works full time doesn’t have to pay any rent or bills. He also isn’t expected to help out around the house like his sister.

She continued: “All this time she's been struggling to save money, so she can return to school and study programming, but this bully keeps knocking her down for the littlest transgressions. Her mother does nothing to help her, and neither do her brothers. She's stuck in a cramped, unwelcome trailer with a monster for a patriarch.”

Readers on Reddit were horrified on her friend’s behalf with one saying she was being abused: “It’s a never ending cycle she won’t be able to get out of without your help. Has she applied for any state benefits? That could help. Or a domestic violence shelter could help with finding her a place. She is being abused.”

Another agreed, saying: “Her step-monster has found his ATM and emotional punching bag. He will find other little things she hasn't done and make her pay for the smallest things. That way she will be stuck there and he will take every penny from her. To be clear, he is abusing her and her useless mother and brothers just don't care. She needs to get out of there."

One reader was quick to sympathise with the friend, saying: “Multiple adults in a small/rundown trailer is a recipe for conflict. Add the double standard between the male and female adult duties (not to mention the "I'm your parent! You need to listen to me and do as I say!" mentality.) and this isn't a good place for her." “Get her out of that situation. Her mum is just as bad as the stepdad for allowing that.”
