Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho is nearing a return to former club Borussia Dortmund, with the 23-year-old set to join on loan.

Sancho has been in exile at Old Trafford since a public falling out with manager Erik ten Hag in September. Ten Hag told reporters that Sancho was not included in United's squad for their 3-1 defeat to Arsenal due to his "performance in training".

The forward then hit back on social media, claiming what Ten Hag had said was "completely untrue" and that he had been made a "scapegoat". Sancho has not played for the club since then, with Ten Hag banning him from all first-team facilities while he refuses to apologise.

As a result, the winger was widely expected to leave in January and a deal has now been agreed for him to return to Dortmund. However, according to a report from the Metro, United have refused to include an option to buy in the deal.

The report states that this is because they are hopeful Sancho can boost his market value with a string of impressive performances in Germany, given his worth has majorly diminished over the last few months.

It also adds that United's new minority stakeholders Ineos could consider sacking Ten Hag in the summer if the club continues to struggle, hinting that there could potentially be a route back for Sancho.

However, Ten Hag recently met Ineos boss Sir Jim Ratcliffe for the first time and insisted the pair are "on the same page". Speaking ahead of United's FA Cup third-round tie against Wigan, the Dutchman said of his meeting with Ratcliffe: "It was very positive, I have to say.

"We had a long meeting, so many hours we sat together - and on many issues, we were on the same page. It was very positive from both sides. I can say that it was a very constructive meeting and we're looking forward to working with each other.

"Also we have to let it settle down. They're just coming in, introducing themselves, but they have good ideas and we have to see what we can integrate. In togetherness, we will work but after one day you can't tell that. They have given me a few (ideas) and we have had our debates about strategies and I think we will come together."
