A mum-of-three was shot dead by her husband on Christmas Day while their three children were inside the house after she asked for a divorce.

Fannie Uresti, 34, was tragically gunned down by her 43-year-old husband Roberto Hernandez on December 25 at around 10.15pm in an apparent murder-suicide.

Houston Police were dispatched to the home and found the pair dead in an upstairs bedroom from gunshot wounds, according to authorities. The couple's three daughters - ages 6, 9, and 14 – were inside the house at the time of the shooting. Police said one of the children heard her parents arguing when several gunshots were fired. The kids were not injured in the shooting.

According to reports, the couple had been having marriage problems as Uresti had filed a police report just 11 days before the shooting, claiming Hernandez was tracking her and that she was getting ready to finalise their divorce. Uresti's mum revealed the couple had previously argued and the husband took out his gun and made threats towards her. She claimed her son-in-law had "obsessive" tendencies.

"He wouldn’t let her, he didn’t let her go out, he didn’t even let her have friends. He didn’t let her be herself," Uresti's mother told KPRC2. "In a word, he wouldn’t let her be. He wouldn’t let her be. That’s why my daughter wanted to get away from him. He would control her psychologically at all times."

The shooting in Texas comes just days after cops revealed a family of three found dead at their $5million (£4million) mansion was the result of another murder-suicide. Rakesh Kamal, 57, his wife Teena, 54, and daughter Arianna, 18, were discovered by a relative on Thursday in Massachusetts after husband Rakesh was found to have fatally shot his wife and daughter before killing himself.

The couple's daughter, a first-year student studying neuroscience at Middlebury College in Vermont, was home for Christmas at the time of her tragic murder. Norfolk District Attorney's Office said the gun he used wasn't registered to him and he didn't have a licence to own it. The determination was based on an early autopsy conducted on the family. The final autopsy report was expected to take weeks to complete.

Testing on the weapon is underway but it appears Rakesh used a 40-calibre Glock 22 but it remains unclear where the gun was purchased from. The motive behind the killings hasn't been announced apart from it being a murder-suicide. However, according to reports, the family was facing financial troubles.

The Kamals bought a huge 19,000-square-foot mansion with 11 bedrooms and 13 bathrooms for $5m in 2019. But the purchase left them struggling with money, and the house was sold for just $3 million (£2.3m) to Wilsondale Associates after it went into foreclosure last year.
