Aston Villa fans left appalled by new 'Microsoft Paint' badge after online leak
Aston Villa fans have torn into the “worst badge” in club history after another controversial logo change.
The Premier League side only changed their badge back in the summer of 2022, ditching their shield for a more rounded effort - while the lion was altered to face the opposite direction. However, Villa announced another change earlier this season after the fresh badge did not meet expectations.
A club statement read: “As communicated at the recent meeting of its Fan Advisory Board, Aston Villa is planning to re-engage with supporters to explore options for the selection of a permanent new-look crest ahead of the club’s 150th anniversary next year.
“Subsequent to the previous consultation process, the results of which currently adorn the 2023/24 playing and training kits, the club has been assessing the impact of the change from local, global and commercial perspectives and have concluded that the current crest has not had the impact which had been hoped when it was introduced.
“Using the results of that original process as the foundation, the club will again engage with supporters over the coming weeks in order to arrive at a permanent identity for Aston Villa, which delivers the required impact.”

Villa fans appear to have been given a sneak peak of the fresh logo after a new badge was trademarked with the UK Government on 20 December 2023. The fresh option sees Villa return to the shield, while the lion returns to the original direction it was facing.
Fans are not happy though, with a number taking to Twitter to criticise the potential logo. One wrote: “That new rumoured Aston Villa badge is horrendous. Might as well keep the old badge, or one of the new ones WE voted for. Honestly, it looks tacky and awful.”

Another said: “For me, our (partly) current round badge is miles & miles ahead of this latest one! Spin the Lion around & it’s our badge for years. This new one looks like a Microsoft Paint job. It’s weak & apart from ‘Aston Villa’ almost identical to Lerner’s. Poor show if it’s the one.”
The criticism continued to come with some even questioning the validity of the leak. One fan said:“Is this the worst badge in Aston Villa history?”
Another rounded off the negative feedback by saying: “Surely this badge leak has GOT to be fake? Can someone set their phone date to 1st April and post it so we can confirm it’s a joke.”
Despite controversy over Villa’s logo change, it does not appear to have done the side any harm on the pitch. Unai Emery secured a place in the Europa Conference League during his debut campaign and Villa currently sit second in the Premier League table this term, just three points behind current leaders Liverpool.
