Darts wonderkid Luke Littler has revealed he has been sent good luck messages by Manchester United legends Rio Ferdinand and Gary Neville ahead of the PDC World Championship final.

Littler has sensationally reached the showpiece event at Ally Pally on what is his debut year in the tournament. The 16-year-old smashed 2018 world champion Rob Cross 6-2 in their semi-final on Tuesday night to set up a clash with Luke Humphries on Wednesday.

'The Nuke' has received a tidal wave of support amid his stunning run to the final, in which he has also knocked out superstar Raymond van Barneveld. Some of the messages have come from Littler's boyhood club United.

When asked whether he had bought his parents a present with the prize money he has won so far, Littler said: "Nothing yet, I've still got another game tomorrow. Obviously they know I like what they've done for me.

"They've brought me to this table, they've brought me to this darting scene. I'll thank them enough. If I do get over the line, I will give them something. I've got a lot of followers now. I've had a message off Luke Shaw from Manchester United, Rio Ferdinand.

"And messages off Gary Neville and Jonny Evans before my game aginst Barney. It's just crazy, people who I have looked up to, especially my club Manchester United, wishing me luck."

Littler came into the tournament with a world ranking of No.164, but has surged into the top 32 thanks to his remarkable run at Ally Pally. Cross is so far the only player to have won more than one set against him this year.

He faces an incredibly difficult test to complete a miraculous tournament win against Humphries. 'Cool Hand Luke' stormed to a 6-0 win in his semi-final against Scott Williams, though Littler is trying to keep his focus.

"It's not even sunk in yet. I threw big averages on the floor the past year and I'm happy to bring it on to the big stage. I've got to stay focused, be Luke Littler and relax. It's beyond believable," he said.

"I only set a goal of winning one game and coming back after Christmas and I'm still standing. I can't imagine lifting the trophy. I have to just beat whoever is in front of me. I've got to stay mature, got to be myself and keep myself to myself.

"I've got to stay composed and try and get over that line. It's not even sunk in yet. This World Championship I've got nothing to lose, it's just a free hit and here I am still standing. There's no pressure, I just take everything in my stride. I've got to believe in myself, believe in my ability and so far, so good."
