Ten Hag expects Man Utd contract clause to be honoured despite Ratcliffe arrival
Erik ten Hag is keen to have the final say on any Manchester United transfers despite the arrival of Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
The INEOS owner sealed a 25 percent purchase of the Red Devils last month and has already promised an overhaul in the club’s football department behind the scenes. He has invested heavily into the club, consequently easing the Red Devils’ Financial Fair Play concerns.
A statement from Ratcliffe after his purchase was announced read: “Whilst the commercial success of the Club has ensured there have always been available funds to win trophies at the highest level, this potential has not been fully unlocked in recent times.
“We will bring the global knowledge, expertise and talent from the wider INEOS Sport group to help drive further improvement at the Club, while also providing funds intended to enable future investment into Old Trafford.”
United are now able to spend in the January transfer window but boss Ten Hag still wants to have the decisive call over any deals. The Dutchman is reportedly keen to remain a huge figure in the club’s recruitment.

According to ESPN, Ten Hag has held a veto on any transfers since he was appointed as the club’s new manager. He has a clause written into his contract and expects that to be honoured despite any imminent reshuffle.

United’s recruitment has been called into question under Ten Hag. There were accusations levelled at the Dutchman that his agent Kees Vos had too much influence at the club after the arrivals of Rasmus Hojlund and Sofyan Amrabat, with both players being clients of his.
Ten Hag responded to those claims by pointing to his veto. Speaking in September, Ten Hag said “It can’t be [too much] because we make very good agreements about it from the start – how we cooperate in that manner.
“For player decisions, transfers, it’s always 50-50; we both have a veto: the club, represented by John Murtough [football director], and me. So there can never be a distraction.”
Just a couple of days into the transfer window, the Red Devils have already made a number of bold decisions. Spanish left-back Sergio Reguilon has seen his loan spell ended prematurely and has returned to Tottenham.
Meanwhile, Raphael Varane could soon be set to depart Old Trafford after the decision was made not to trigger a one-year contract extension written into his deal. There have also been suggestions that the Red Devils have already made the decision not to sign Amrabat once his loan spell from Fiorentina at Old Trafford comes to an end.
