The new year likely means you've made resolutions to stick to, and better quality sleep could well be on the top of your list.

We all know that a better quality of sleep means that we are more alert, more likely to want to do our daily activities, and could even mean that we live longer. But no matter how much information we have on the importance of sleep, it can be hard to drift off to the land of nod and get yourself into a healthy bedtime routine - especially if you sleep next to your partner.

Experts have shared that there's a Scandinavian sleep method that you could try that has proven popular in other countries - but it hasn't caught on in the UK yet.

Dorothy Chambers, sleep expert at Sleep Junkie, says it's no surprise people are looking for other ways to have a peaceful night's sleep when they're sharing a bed. But what exactly is the Scandinavian sleep method?

Dorothy explained: "The Scandinavian sleep method is where a couple uses two separate duvets or blankets, rather than one large one to share. It has its pros and cons and is definitely something that might not suit everyone's personal sleeping preferences."

For example, if you prefer to snuggle during the night, this method would likely completely prevent that as you have two duvets to contend with, rather than just one. But if you love your own space - this could be a winner.

One of the benefits of this approach is not having to fight over the duvet in the middle of the night when one of you turns the blanket into their own personal burrito wrap, which can be a problem for many.

"Additionally, if you and the person you're sharing a bed with run at different temperatures, separate duvets allow you to choose the type of duvet or blanket that suits you", the expert shared.

The little-known trick might be your saviour when it comes to resetting your body clock for those gloomy January evenings.
