Gary Neville continued to maintain his stance against the Conservatives and told Rishi Sunak he hopes to see the end of him in 2024.

The Prime Minister is the third Tory Party leader since they won a majority in the 2019 election. Throughout that time scandals have marred their premiership and the polls suggest they face a tough task in maintaining their power when the next election comes round.

Neville, a Labour Party member, has been a vocal critic of the current Government, especially on social media. Sunak has attempted to bring in new policies and as of Monday, international students starting courses in Britain will no longer be allowed to obtain visas for their spouses and relatives - unless they are on a postgraduate research programme or a government-sponsored course.

Home Secretary James Cleverly said the government had a “tough plan to rapidly bring numbers down”, and he was “ending the unreasonable practice of overseas students bringing their family members to the UK”.

Neville has responded to the Prime Minister after Sunak announced the policy on his social media. Neville said: "Happy New Year Students! Let’s hope you’re gone in 2024".

This time last year the Sky Sports pundit claimed the Government was “demonising” striking rail and health workers. In response to that Sunak, missing the point somewhat, said: “I think when most people are tuning in to watch Gary Neville they want to hear about the football and watch the football. They don’t want to discuss politics.”

The Prime Minister was recently at St Mary's to watch his beloved Southampton see off Plymouth Argyle to continue their promotion charge. Saints boss Russell Martin though had no interest in engaging with Sunak, which he made very clear.

He said: “He might have come down, but I have absolutely no interest in saying hello. How’s that for honesty.” Martin also added: "I just made a joke on BBC that I had no interest (in Sunak being present) - I am a football manager, and I'm not sure we are aligned on too much politically.

"But I know he is a fan, and I hope he enjoyed watching the team."
