Princess Diana made witty response over bringing 'good looks' to Royal Family
Princess Diana was known for her sense of humour and this extended to her confidence and witty jokes.
The Princess of Wales tragically passed away 25 years ago and to mark her death, former BBC royal correspondent Michael Cole has shared a funny moment between him and Diana. He spoke on the To Di For Daily Podcast about the moment he tried to compliment her.
Mr Cole, who was the Director of Public Affairs at Harrods from 1988 to 1998, recalled a conversation he had with the princess when she walked into the store.
He pointed out how "stunning" she looked in an elegant trouser suit and in response, she agreed with his statement. Recalling the cheeky moment, Mr Cole told podcast host Kinsey Schofield: “I remember once, she came into Harrods and she was wearing a very, very beautiful brown Yves St Laurent trouser suit. And she looked stunning…
“I said to her: ‘Well you’ve certainly bred some good looks into the British Royal Family.’ And she said: ‘And height! And good looks, Michael! And good looks!’” He added: “She was very proud of that. I think if you look at those boys [ Prince William and Prince Harry ], the Spencer genes from her side of the family are very obvious.”

He explained the princess knew the building like the back of her hand, telling Ms Schofield: “I was asked to show her around the building and she was amazing — she knew Harrods better than I did.
“The seven floor of Harrods, she knew the fastest way from one department to another. It’s a big, big store… and she knew her way around far better than I did because she’d been going there since she was a teenager.”
According to Mr Cole, Prince William and Prince Harry also spent some of their childhood years at the department store, claiming the then 14 and 11-year-old princes would spend hours in Harrods playing video games.

They didn’t have them at Kensington Palace, which was only about 2 miles away, so they would come to the fourth floor — the toy department, the floor for the children — and they would spend hours there.
“Other children would be competing with them, nobody cared that they were royal princes. They did love that.” He noted the current status of the princes’ relationship, claiming their mother “would be very upset to see the two brothers apparently at loggerheads, living 6,000 miles apart and not communicating”.
Mr Cole added: “She always brought them up to be there for each other and she hoped, and she trusted, that they would always have each other’s backs whatever happened throughout life. And I think if she were looking down now, she would be willing them, somehow, to mend fences, to make amends, to become the brothers they were.”
