Love Island's Sammy Root reveals career shift in New Year's resolution
Sammy Root may have soared to fame over the summer when he won Love Island 2023 with now ex-girlfriend Jess Harding, but the former Islander has teased a big career change for 2024.
Sammy, 22, who sadly split from Jess, 22, just weeks after leaving the villa, has revealed he wants to really focus on his boxing and get back to the sport "properly" in the New Year.
The TV personality isn't the first Love Island star to focus on a boxing career since the villa as he follows in the footsteps of Tommy Fury, Jack Fincham, Haris Namani and AJ Bunker.
Speaking exclusively to the Mirror, Sammy said of if he had any New Year's resolutions: "I don't specifically do New Year's resolutions. I'm quite strict with myself throughout the year with my fitness and stuff. To be fair, next year, I've always boxed my whole life and I really do want to get back into that. I think my New Year's resolution is to really focus on my boxing and get back to that properly. If I had one, it would be that."

He said: "Love Island was literally the best experience of my life and I had a lot of fun on there. I actually enjoy being on TV, it's a laugh, I like to watch myself. You know what, I'd never say never. I definitely would consider doing another show."

Talking about his "Bucket List" shows, Sammy said: "Obviously, Love Island was one that was on my Bucket List. I always grew up watching that with my mum. But if I had to narrow it down, probably I'm A Celebrity or Dancing On Ice. I would love to go on them, they've been shows I've watched for years with my mum and to get on there myself would literally be a dream come true."
Sammy has been using the past few months to do charity work, working to raise awareness of breast cancer, Dogs Trust and is currently planning to work with Mind. He said: "Before the villa, I've always liked to do a bit of charity work and my family also do.
"Getting the big platform that I've got now, I thought straightaway this is something I could definitely put to charity work. So I've been doing a bit of work for breast cancer. I did work for Dogs Trust and I'm currently brainstorming, I want to set myself a challenge to do to raise money for Mind."
