Susanna Reid says she is trying to avoid the mid-afternoon munchies after losing weight in the summer.

While many of us have been tucking into treats around the festive period, TV host Susanna’s problem stems from her early alarm when she is fronting Good Morning Britain.

She said: “I’m not particularly consistent with exercise. I used to do Zumba, running and Peloton, but now the bike in my bedroom is used as a clothes horse. I do the gym occasionally and sometimes use dumbbells and a kettlebell at home.”

She said her 2013 stint on Strictly helped with fitness too. But she added of the GMB job she has had since 2014: “Eamonn Holmes once said that when you’re on breakfast television, it feels like you have six breakfasts a day. You’re awake for so much longer, you can end up eating more, and because you’re so tired in the afternoon... the mid-afternoon munchies can involve a lot of carbs.”

When she had some time off from early starts this summer, Susanna determined to cut the snacks, and lost weight. She added: “Since going back to work, I’ve had to try not to fall back into the same habits.”

In an interview with Woman&Home 53-year-old Susanna also spoke about feeling stronger in her fifties, in part due to working with Piers Morgan before he quit the show in a row over comments he made about Meghan Markle.

Though still pals with him, she said: “I’m now stronger and more resilient when people disagree with me.”

And despite the early starts she said of GMB: “I’ll be there until they don’t want me any more.”
