BBC viewers fans 'gutted' huge series didn't launch over Christmas

BBC viewers have been left frustarted with the channel after an eagerly awaiting second season of The Traitors is pushed into 2024.

The second season of the programme, featuring presenter Claudia Winkleman, will not air until January 3rd and viewers have been left wondering why the programme didn't get chosen for the Christmas line-up.

Viewers have been left disappointed by picks for the festive season failed to engage, with some branding dramas like the adaptation of Agatha Christie's 'Murder Is Easy' as "pitiful". Taking to social media to vent their frustration, viewers questioned why the broadcasting giant hadn't added the twists and turns of The Traitors into their Christmas planning.

One viewer wrote on X/Twitter: "I simply don’t understand why The Traitors S2 hasn’t launched tonight." Another replied: "I know!! It would have been excellent for these in between days! Gutted we’ve got to wait until the New Year. Makes no sense." A third shared: "The Christmas schedule has been dreadful. It would have been perfect timing to launch today".

The second season of The Traitors sees host Claudia return to host the series after the first season earlier this year proved a huge hit with viewers. However the new series has left Claudia nervous that fans might not like it, as she explained in an interview to Heat magazine: "We're going again but I'm feeling nervous and weird about it. I originally said 'lets just leave it as this magical thing that happened. Then the head of BBC took my temperature. I just don't want people's expectations to be so high."

She continued: "The game is compelling and it taps into something I've been told all my life 'Trust your gut'. But it turns out you can't. You know absolutely nothing. On Strictly Come Dancing I'm like a cheerleader. When they sat me down and said I had to kick two people out, I was like 'Don't be ridiculous I can't do that'. I do have to be quite cold. Sometimes I'm on the side of the Traitors and sometimes I really want the Faithful to get one of them. They work in equal measure because I respect game play above everything."

Claudia has also teased viewers and fans that the second season will be epic, as she explained: "The missions this year are epic. The producers are so clever as the missions are incredibly important as it is a chance for the contestants to switch off from strategising and plotting. They get fresh air, they run around, they work as a team. The scale this year is beyond."

The Traitors launches on Wednesday January 3 at 9pm on BBC One.
