'Greedy' bride and groom stun guests by charging them £300 to attend wedding
are - there's no way around it. Even if you opt to have a small event with limited and , you can still be looking at spending a fair bit after factoring in things like outfits, decorations, and location.
Some couples are lucky enough to get help from their but the majority of and opt to pay for it themselves and stick within their means. However, one woman was left stunned when she received an invitation to a friend’s wedding - with the only option to attend the whole day also coming with a price tag.
Posting to social media for feedback on what other people thought, the bemused guest wrote: “One of my closest friends is getting married and is charging her guests to attend the wedding. I always knew she was cheap, so in one way I'm not surprised. But this is really not the norm, although it seems like 90s kids like me have started to charge for their weddings more and more which is just embarrassing.”

Breaking down the ‘cost’ to attend, she explained that on the invitation there are three options:
'I'm spending £20k on a new bathroom - but won't help my brother out with cash'
1. I will attend the wedding - envelope fee: £51 ($65)
2. I will only attend the ceremony
3. I will not be able to attend
She also revealed that it doesn’t state on the what the fee actually covers but has since discovered that it covers food, music, decorations, and venue. She added incredulously, “So they literally want their guests to pay for decorations.” And not only do the bride and groom expect their guests to pay for the wedding, but the night before the big day they’re also having a dinner that you’ll be in line to fork out for.
But that’s not all. The woman also revealed that if guests want to stay at the venue they’ll need to pay around £78 ($100) per night. She added: “This applies both for the night between the pre-dinner and wedding day, and the night after the wedding. So that would be £156 ($200) in total.
“I guess these prices are more OK since nobody is forcing me to attend that dinner and/or sleeping over. But if I'm invited to a wedding I shouldn't have to pay to attend the actual wedding?!”
Last but not least, the outraged woman remarked that the couple also expected wedding gifts, with the majority starting around the £35 ($50) mark. Totting it all up, she was left fuming when she realised that to attend the wedding it would cost at least £235 ($300) - without taking into account the cost of travel to and from the wedding, outfit, food or drink. Meaning in reality, it would cost the average guest around £300 ($400) to go.
Furious, she added that she knows her friend has money and she suspects that some of the cash will be used to fund the renovations of their house. Noting that she definitely won’t be going to the wedding, she finished: “It's just unfortunate because we've been friends for 12 years and it's sad to only be able to attend the ceremony because I absolutely refuse to pay.”
People reading on immediately laid into the bride branding her “tacky”. One person joked in response: “Ask her if you can not pay, but still come to the reception if you bring your own dinner and promise not to look at any of the decorations. That should be fair, right? This is so beyond tacky and tasteless. I hope she gets roasted for it.
