Worrying sign of stomach cancer you might notice after eating Christmas dinner

As we tuck into our delicious Christmas dinner this festive season, it's certain many of us will be feeling that post dinner slump - maybe even having an afternoon nap afterwards, but it's important to know when signs of your post Christmas dinner are something a little more worrying.

Feeling nauseous from eating too much can usually just be a sign you've indulged just a little too much - and is very easily done over the festive season with the range of food available. But vomiting and feeling sick after food can also be a sign of stomach cancer too.

As the stomach is made up of several layers, with the mucosa being the deepest layer, and the layer that makes stomach acid and enzymes that digest food, but most stomach cancers start in the mucosa. One of the most common signs of stomach cancer is nausea and vomiting shortly after eating.

Other symptoms can include bloating and feeling full even after eating small amounts of food as well as stomach pain according to medical experts at US hospital Cedars Sinai. They also highlight there are certain risk factors that can make you more susceptible to developing stomach cancer and increasing the risk.

"Risk factors include being a man, in your late 60s or older, and being Hispanic, African American, or a Pacific Islander," the experts explained, and advised: "Lifestyle changes may help to prevent stomach cancer. These include not eating smoked, salted, pickled, and cured foods. They also include staying at a healthy weight not smoking, and not drinking In early stages, there may be mild or no symptoms. The most common symptoms include stomach pain, diarrhoea or constipation, vomiting blood, and feeling full or bloated after eating even small amounts of food."

As much as we all want to enjoy ourselves over the festive period, it's important to keep in mind our health and wellbeing. It's also noted that every 13 seconds the NHS website is viewed for advice on acid reflux and heartburn. "Heartburn is top of the list for advice on health conditions on the NHS website at Christmas, according to new figures.

"Analysis by NHS Digital covering the previous two years found that, apart from information about Covid, the heartburn and acid reflux page was the most commonly viewed health condition during the festive period. There are an estimated 13,200 visits to the website page during Christmas Day and Boxing Day – equivalent to one view every 13 seconds," The NHS website claimed.
