In the cold winter months, there's nothing quite like putting your electric mattress topper on full blast and treating yourself to some warmth - but one woman realised that when you're on your period, this may not be the best idea.

Hannah Davies, 29, accidentally discovered a new 'danger' of working from home when her sanitary towel was melted by the blanket. She said she was shocked to discover the adhesive of the menstrual product had melted into the fabric of her "favourite period pants" as she worked.

She was attempting to ease her period cramps before she began getting ready for her office Christmas party when she made the shocking discovery.

The events management worker says she later realised the heat had fused her Always sensitive pad to the fabric of her underwear, which she claims are now "gone forever." Hannah admits she felt like an "idiot" for not realising the heat may melt the plastic, as her boyfriend Sam thought that the outcome was "obvious."

Keen to warn others about what could happen, Hannah shared the ordeal to TikTok with the caption: "It's been a rough day today", and viewers were left "horrified." Some joked that the mishap could have resulted in a "free wax" - though Hannah pointed out it only melted to her underwear thankfully.

Hannah, who lives in Birmingham, said: "I was working from home, feeling a bit s**t and I needed to make myself not feel s**t by the time of our Christmas party, which was that evening. I thought I'd put all the heat on me I could possibly stand and hope for the best. I was working from home in my bed. I was lying face down starfished for a bit to try and ease my period pain and then for a bit, I was cross-legged doing my work so I'm not sure which position it was.

"It [the electric blanket] was on the highest heat setting. Ours has three settings, so you wouldn't think it would be that high. They're beautiful, I love them. I did not think it was as hot as it was, obviously. The bit that's got the sticky stuff that sticks to your underwear had just melted into the underwear. Not into me, thankfully. Everyone on TikTok said, 'I bet that hurt. I bet you've been burned and waxed and everything'. So many comments said it was like a free Brazilian wax. That would have ruined the Christmas party, wouldn't it?

"The only casualty was the underwear. It was my favourite period pants, gone forever. The comfy ones that you have for specifically when you're in pain. I felt a bit like an idiot because I hadn't thought that heat might melt plastic. It's not something that comes into your head. I texted my boyfriend saying what had happened and he said 'well obviously it has'. I thought, I'm not having that. I can't be the only one. So if I put it on TikTok other people will be shocked and I can prove I'm not an idiot.

"It was when we were in the taxi from our pre-drinks to the meal that I opened TikTok and I saw that a few more people had seen this than I thought. The next time I checked was at 2am when it had hit a million. I was quite drunk at that point. It's quite funny that the one that actually took off was maybe the one that I didn't want to take off."

One TikTok user wrote: "I'm both horrified and grateful for this information", with another adding: "Not me on my monthlies (with a pad on coincidentally) with my heated blanket on full this very moment."
