He may be too young to drink, or even to wear the name of the tournament’s sponsor – but Luke ‘The Nuke’ Littler is setting the darts world alight.

The 16-year-old became the second youngest player to win a match at the World Championship this week. Fans at Alexandra Palace chanted: “You’re going to school in the morning,” as he beat Christian Kist 3-0 on Wednesday. Luke celebrated with a soft drink and a kebab, before the second round tie against Andrew Gilding. He is not even allowed to wear the logo of the tournament’s sponsors, betting firm Paddy Power.

Littler, from Warrington, Cheshire, said: “I first picked up a set of magnetic darts when I was one and a half. At four, I started playing on a small board. Proper darts from nine years old.”

Soon, Luke was travelling the country with his taxi driver dad Antony and mum Lisa, who works for a scented candle firm. Last weekend, became the first two-time Junior Darts Corporation world champion. And he’s been noticed by his idol, 16-times World Champion Phil Taylor, who said: “He will be one of the best players ever.”
