Mum arrested on suspicion of murder as baby girl 'found in pram' dies
A woman is being quizzed on suspicion of murdering her baby daughter who was reportedly found in a pram in a public park.
The five-month-old tot was found in a serious condition in Woodhouse Moor park in Leeds, West Yorks, yesterday afternoon, police said. Detectives today confirmed they had arrested the infant's mother on suspicion of her murder.
The parkland was today sealed off as police officers and forensics teams combed for clues. West Yorkshire Police were contacted by a woman at 5.44pm yesterday who reported a baby in a serious condition near the junction of Clarendon Road and Moorland Road.
It is understood the baby was discovered in a pram. She was taken to hospital by ambulance for emergency treatment but pronounced dead a short time later.
Detective Chief Inspector James Entwistle said: “The death of a child in these circumstances is clearly a very tragic incident and we are carrying out enquiries to get a complete picture of what has occurred. We would like to hear from anyone who was in the park around this time and who witnessed anything or who has any information that could assist the investigation.”
