The two 'warped' teenagers who murdered Warrington schoolgirl Brianna Ghey shared the same 'dark fantasies', but there were stark differences between the pair.

The twisted pair, known only as Girl X and Boy Y, have today been found guilty of Brianna's murder, with the jury taking just four hours and 40 minutes to give their guilty verdict. X and Y, both 16, denied killing Brianna and blamed each other in court. 16-year-old Brianna, who was transgender, was found with multiple stab wounds by dog walkers in Culcheth Linear Park last February.

The court heard however how the friends lured Brianna to the park, before stabbing her 28 times in what was described as a 'sustained and violent' attack. Brianna tragically passed away at the scene, having sustained 'catastrophic blood loss'.

Throughout the 18-day trial, the jury listened to various chilling details about X and Y, who are understood to have been friends since the age of 11. The disturbing picture that emerged in court was of a twisted, torture-obsessed girl and her 'Tesco meal deal' sidekick, both of whom had a 'deadly influence' on the other.

Serial killer-obsessed girl

Girl X, who was excluded from school just four months before Brianna's murder, was described as an articulate but violence-obsessed girl who boasted about watching torture videos on the Dark Web. She also has a dark fascination with serial killers, with police discovering notes in her bedroom about Jeffrey Dahmer, Richard Ramirez, and Harold Shipman.

A source told the Mail that Girl X, reportedly a loner, saw herself as a 'witch', and attempted to recruit children to take part in blood rituals with her. "You won't find a single student that liked her," a parent of a child at the same school said.

During questioning at Manchester Crown Court, Girl X admitted to finding serial killers 'interesting', with a specific focus on their 'different personalities' and 'the different ways they would carry things out'. She admitted that she'd begun to have fantasies about killing and torturing people at the age of around 14, opening up to Boy Y in 2022, who 'seemed to like that sort of stuff'.

Her counsel Richard Pratt KC shared how Girl X had downloaded a web browser called TOR in a bid to access the dark web and read aloud a message she'd sent to Boy Y, asking, "How do I get real videos of people being murdered and tortured?" It's understood that Girl X pretended to befriend Brianna, who rarely left home alone, all the while plotting her frenzied murder.

A chilling handwritten note found in her room, headed, 'Saturday 11th February 2023. Victim: Brianna Ghey', read: "Meet [Y] at wooden posts 1pm. Walk down to library … busstop. Wait until Brianna gets of bus then the 3 of us walk to linear park. Go to the pipe/tunnel area. I say code word to [Y]. He stabs her in the back as I stab her in the stomach. [Y] drags the body into the area. We both cover up the area with logs etc."

Shedding light on the 'cruel' character of Girl X, Det Ch Supt Mike Evans, head of crime at Cheshire Police, told BBC News: "She was really cruel. This girl was the one who has befriended and who has betrayed and who has essentially instigated this attack throughout. She has been the planner behind it. She's been the person who was sending the text messages and ultimately lured Brianna out to her death and then murdered her in the coldest fashion."

'Tesco meal deal' sidekick

Boy Y was described in court as being the 'Tesco meal' sidekick to Girl X's 'stage manager'. It's understood that Boy Y, who has been diagnosed with autism and a 'high level of social anxiety' also has 'selective mutism'. Following his arrest, Boy Y gradually stopped speaking to anyone aside from his mother following his arrest and had to type his responses to questions during the trial.

Delivered his closing speech on behalf of Boy Y, Richard Littler KC advised the jury: "If this case were a play, it would definitely be a tragedy. The script would have been written by Girl X. It would have been directed by Girl X, it would have been stage-managed by Girl X, it would have been produced by Girl X and the central character would have been Girl X. The central issue in the case is whether you can be sure whether Boy Y was part of the cast or just an extra drafted in for that afternoon on the 11th of February in Culcheth. Was he a fully paid-up member of the plan?"

The prosecution suggested that Y had acted as X's 'assassin', with his phone number saved on one of her electronic devices under 'Tesco John Wick' - a reference to a fictional hitman. When cross-examined however, Girl X stated she gave him this nickname because 'he looked like a less good version' of the famous Keanu Reeves character.

As reported by the Liverpool Echo, Littler drew upon this reference, as well as Boy Y's childhood interest in kickboxing, arguing: "Despite the best efforts of Mr Pratt to paint a picture of a fighting, jabbing kickboxing champion. He was 11. Not really the Karate Kid impression Mr Pratt wanted to paint. The prosecution wanted to remind you of Tesco John Wick. He was a hitman. Boy Y, a hitman, Tesco John Wick. More like a Tesco meal deal."

Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) deputy crown prosecutor Ursula Doyle stated that both teenagers were "equally responsible in planning the killing and carrying it out", adding that they "appear to have been a deadly influence on each other and turned what may have started out as dark fantasies about murder into a reality."

Today, the judge told the court a sentencing hearing will take place in the new year. Mrs Justice Yip told the two defendants: "I will have to impose a life sentence. What I have to decide is the minimum amount of time you will be required to serve before you might be considered for release. I'm not going to do that this week. I'm going to ask for some reports in relation to each of you."
