The twisted teenage thugs who stabbed innocent Brianna Ghey to death were warned they face lengthy jail sentences for the senseless murder.

And as the tragic victim’s parents Esther Ghey and Peter Spooner paid an emotion tribute to their daughter, 16, police revealed the vile pair may have gone on to kill again if they had not been caught. The 16-year-olds, named only as Boy Y and Girl X, have been found guilty of murdering Brianna. Obsessed with violence, torture and death, they picked her from a list of five people they wanted to murder. Police even found a handwritten note with a plan of how they would kill her.

The pair, who showed no remorse during their trial, stabbed defenceless Brianna 28 times in a frenzied attack with a hunting knife after she was lured to a park. It was the first time the anxious youngster, whose TikTok videos attracted 31,000 followers, had been out alone for a while. On her way to meet her killers she told Esther: “I’m on the bus by myself, I’m scared”.

Speaking outside court, Det Supt Mike Evans said: “These are two very warped individuals. They killed because they wanted to prove that they could and they had a thirst for killing. Whether there would have been more, I have no idea but they did not seem bothered by what they had done, which maybe leads to the fact that there could have been.” Brianna was murdered at Culcheth Linear Park, near her home in Birchwood, Cheshire, last February. She was knifed in the head, neck, back and chest and died at the scene. Boy Y and Girl X were convicted at Manchester crown court. They will be sentenced later.

But Mrs Justice Yip warned them: “I will have to impose a life sentence. What I have to decide is the minimum amount of time you will serve.”

Esther, 37, described her daughter as “funny, witty, and fearless”. She said: “Brianna was larger than life. We miss Brianna so much and our house feels empty without her laughter. To now know how scared my usually fearless child must have been when she was alone in the park with someone that she called her friend will haunt me forever. I have had moments where I felt sorry for the defendants as they have ruined their own lives as well as ours. But now, knowing their true nature, and seeing neither display an ounce of remorse, I have lost any sympathy and I am glad they will spend many years in prison.”

Peter added: “It is impossible to put into words how the murder of my child has affected me. I never stopped loving her and never will. From when she was little, I remember all the faces she would pull to make me laugh, her cheeky giggle and funny dances are engraved in my memory. I knew she was going to be a star and the amount of support she has received and followers on TikTok have proved this. I hate how her life has been brutally taken away and she has been deprived of the life she wanted to live.”

Phone messages sent between the killers revealed their blood lust during their 18-day trial. Girl X, who was attracted to and obsessed with Brianna, wrote: “I want to stab her at least once even if she’s dead jus coz it’s fun lol.” The note on how to kill Brianna, dated Saturday 11th February 2023, included the words: “I say code word to Boy Y. He stabs her in the back as I stab her in the stomach. We both cover up the area with logs.”

Girl X, from Warrington, and Boy Y, of Leigh, Gtr Manchester, blamed each other for inflicting the fatal wounds. But Merseyside deputy chief prosecutor Ursula Doyle said: “Brianna was brutally slain in a public park. They both planned it and they were both present. They are equally responsible for what happened.”

Brianna was transgender. Police said it was not linked to her murder. But Det Supt Evans added: “She was very withdrawn with a small social circle. She was an anxious child. She stayed indoors a lot and was quite a vulnerable individual. That made her quite trusting of the girl involved who befriended her.”

The officer slammed the killers for not admitting their guilt. He said: “It is almost as cruel as what they did, to make the family relive it." Esther has started a fundraising campaign in Brianna’s memory, to help teachers provide mental health support for children.
