Brianna Ghey's mum had premonition before hearing 'fearless' daughter was dead
The mother of murdered teenager Brianna Ghey has told of a chilling premonition she had before finding out her fearless daughter had died.
A boy and a girl have been found guilty of the "frenzied" murder of 16-year-old Brianna. She was stabbed with a hunting knife 28 times in her head, neck, chest and back after being lured to Linear Park, Culcheth, a village near Warrington, Cheshire, on the afternoon of February 11.
The pair, identified only as Girl X and Boy Y, both now aged 16 but 15 at the time, had denied murder and each blamed the other for the killing of the transgender teenager, described as "horrific" by detectives. And now Brianna's mum Esther Ghey has said how she was worried that her daughter had not come home on the day she died before police knocked on her door.

She stated: "Brianna was larger than life, she was funny, witty, and fearless. We miss Brianna so much and our hearts feel empty without her laughter.
"To know how scared my usually fearless child must have been when she was alone in that park with someone she called her friend will haunt me forever. Prior to the trial I had moments where I felt sorry for the defendants because they had ruined their own lives as well as ours but now knowing the true nature and seeing no remorse for what they have done to Brianna I have lost all sympathy that I may have had for them and I am glad they will spend many years in prison."

The mum also thanked the couple who discovered her daughter and the first officer on the scene for doing all they could “to help my precious child”.

She also thanked the jury for “making the right decision” and for ensuring “society is now a safer place”. The mother added: “Lastly, please have some empathy and compassion for the families of the young people convicted of this horrific crime. They too have lost a child and they must live the rest of their lives knowing what their child has done.”
She finished her statement by saying her family request “healing space” for the next few weeks, but promised to be back at the end of January to continue campaigning for better mental health support for young people and their families.

She wanted to identify as a female and she wanted to wear girl’s school uniform and yeah she just did it. It wasn’t a hurdle at all for her.” And she told the police that she "knew something was going to happen".
Recalling the moment the police broke the terrible news ,she said: “I sort of joked and said that if Brianna doesn’t come home soon I’ll probably have to ring the police. I got to the front door and the front door was open and it was two policemen stood in the house. And they said that they’d found a body and I remember the first thing that I said to him was that I knew, I knew, that something was going to happen.”
Brianna’s father, Peter Spooner, said he was “so proud” of his daughter and would never stop loving her. He added: “It is impossible to put into words how the murder of my child has affected me. I never stopped loving her and I never will. When she was little I remember the faces she would pull to make me laugh.

I knew she was going to be a star and the amount of support she received from the followers on TikTok proved this. She would share her TikTok videos with me all the time and I was so proud of what she could do. She showed me how she would do her makeup, she had such an amazing talent and enjoyed sharing this with family and friends. I look into her eyes and they shine back at me.
"I know she was a beautiful girl to be proud of. I hate how her life has been brutally taken away from her and she has been deprived of the life she wanted to live. It is difficult to comprehend how people can do these vile things in the world and don’t understand how cruel and heartbreaking their actions can be.
"The impact of Brianna’s death has not just impacted me as her father but also her whole family. My heart bleeds every day for Brianna and this will never go away and the amount of guilt I have can be sometimes unbearable but I will ensure that her memory lives on in my thoughts and dreams."
'Lovely' teenager, 16, found stabbed to death in park died in 'targeted attack'
The 'crumpled' handwritten note detailing a 'plan to kill' Brianna (MEN Media)While Brianna's headteacher said she “didn’t live her life as a victim”. Emma Mills told the BBC: “There was never any evidence of Brianna being bullied within school or out of school. Brianna was very much able to give as good as she got in that way. And I think what was really hard was that she was portrayed in the media as a victim and she didn’t live her life as a victim. She was someone that was loud and proud and confident in who she was.”
Intelligent, "high functioning" and coming from normal backgrounds, the trial heard the pair, who have been found guilty of murder, had a fascination for violence, torture and murder and had planned the killing for weeks, detailed in a handwritten murder plan and phone messages found by detectives.
A jury of seven men and five women convicted the two following a four-week trial at Manchester Crown Court. Boy Y has been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and is non-verbal and girl X has traits of autism and ADHD. Trial Judge Mrs Justice Yip is now to discuss with counsel when the defendants, both facing mandatory jail terms for life, will be sentenced.
Deputy chief crown prosecutor Ursula Doyle said: “This has been one of the most distressing cases the Crown Prosecution Service has had to deal with. The planning, the violence and the age of the killers is beyond belief.
Brianna Ghey was "fearless" said her mum (PA)“Brianna Ghey was subjected to a frenzied and ferocious attack and was stabbed 28 times in broad daylight in a public park. Girl X and Boy Y appear to have been a deadly influence on each other and turned what may have started out as dark fantasies about murder into a reality.
“The pages and pages of Whatsapp messages between the two, planning and plotting to kill people, talking of murder, torture and cruelty were very difficult to read. The messages provided a terrifying insight into the minds of the two defendants. However, they also provided us with the detailed planning of the attack and then the attempts to cover it up. The Crown Prosecution Service authorised a charge of murder for both of the defendants.
“They were both equally responsible in planning the killing and carrying it out. In the trial, the defendants tried to blame each other to absolve themselves. The jury has clearly seen their explanations for the lies that they were. This has been a difficult prosecution not least because two very young people were on trial for the most serious offence known to criminal law.
“It has involved using a number of measures to ensure that the defendants could participate fully in the trial and enable them to give their evidence. The Crown Prosecution Service would like to thank the family of Brianna Ghey for the courage and dignity that they have shown throughout these proceedings. We hope today’s verdict brings some solace, and our thoughts and sympathies remain with them at this difficult time.”
Today, the judge told the court a sentencing hearing will take place in the new year. Mrs Justice Yip told the two defendants: "I will have to impose a life sentence. What I have to decide is the minimum amount of time you will be required to serve before you might be considered for release. I'm not going to do that this week. I'm going to ask for some reports in relation to each of you."
