A simple yet slightly disturbing image has divided the internet.

If you're looking to keep the kids occupied this Christmas, or just love a brainteaser that really challenges your own sanity and faith in humanity - you're in luck. One optical illusion has gone viral and sparked huge debate, but nobody can agree on the correct answer.

It comes from an Instagram account that goes by the username @unseenillusions - which has garnered an impressive 1.3 million followers for its constant posts of brainteasers and unsolvable puzzles. So, what are you waiting for?

The optical illusion features a hand, but each finger is then connected to another hand, which is connected to another hand (creepy, right?). To solve the puzzle, you just need to answer how many fingers there are.

At the time of writing, the post has received more than 400 comments - but people's answers vary. A few people believe 155 is the correct numbers of fingers, while some have not counted a thumb as a finger - so believe it is only 150.

However, other answers include 130, 160, 175 and even 215. "More than they should be," one user joked - while another added: "I am not counting all of those."

Last week, a seemingly-simply game of spot the difference got everyone's brains ticking. Created by Play Minesweeper, the festive puzzle shows two images side by side that depict a cosy Christmas cottage - decorated with stockings, presents, and an impressive Xmas tree.
