Paddy and Christine McGuinness may have split more than a year ago, but they will be spending Christmas together this year.

The 50-year-old Top Gear presenter and his 35-year-old wife stunned fans in July last year when they made the shock announcement that they were to separate after eleven years of marriage. However, the couple still live under the same roof where they co-parent their three children; eight year-old twins Leo and Penelope, and five year-old daughter Felicity.

Paddy and Christine have raised awareness of autism in the UK as all three of their children were diagnosed with the condition. While in 2021, Christine herself was diagnosed with autism - which she described as “amazing” and hoped it would help her guide her children with the condition.

While fans of the couple regarded them as one of the strongest in the celebrity spotlight, there was sadness when they announced their marriage was over last year - although their divorce is not yet finalised. Now Christine has shared a heartbreaking update about her relationship with Paddy - saying they both need to “move on” now that they have split.

Christine told Closer magazine: “Of course me and Paddy will be spending Christmas together because we still live in the same house. I think we’ve got to move on, but for now it works for the children. We both go in and out and we’ve got a schedule we try to stick to and a routine for the kids.

"The one thing we agree on more than anything is that we just want what’s best for our children, and that’s to be a good mum and dad.” Christine went on to explain that being there for her children was what she considered to be the most important aspect of the festive season. She explained: "So, around Christmas time, I always make sure that I’m at home more than ever – I love it."

Paddy and Christine announced their split after being together for 15 years. Posting a shared statement via Instagram, the couple explained: “We hadn't planned on sharing this publicly until we were ready but after the lack of privacy surrounding our personal life, we feel left with no other option but to clarify.

"A while ago we took the difficult decision to separate but our main focus as always is to continue loving and supporting our children. This was not an easy decision to make but we're moving forward as the best parents we can be for our three beautiful children. We'll always be a loving family, we still have a great relationship and still live happily in our family home together.

"We hope this now draws a line under anymore unwanted and unnecessary intrusion into our private life. Although we work in the public eye we ask kindly if you could respect our wishes for privacy on this matter. We'll be making no further comment."

The announcement came not long after Christine had featured on ITV reality show The Games - and fans noted that Paddy never featured on the series to support her. The break up also came after reports that Paddy had been messaging an unnamed BBC presenter.

When Christine revealed she had been diagnosed with autism in 2021, she told Sky News: "I always felt different. And I always felt very similar to the children… I really struggled to fit in. I became quite reclusive - in my 20s I stayed in, stayed at home pretty much for around eight years."

"Food was always a big issue. Sensory things around food - the taste, the smell, the texture. Being in busy places, going out shopping, events, everything. I always found it really overwhelming."

She added: "It's been an amazing thing for me to have that diagnosis… I’m trying to be a bit more myself now, I'm trying to just relax and accept this is me, this is who I am. I want autistic people to feel comfortable in their own skin, to be able to do that."
