A couple were left stunned when a bloodied and barefoot woman arrived at their home hammering the door after fighting off her kidnapper.

On Saturday, Gary and Robin Marcello were enjoying a lie-in when the 27-year-old escapee arrived at their home in Gig Harbour, Washington, early in the morning.

Now, bodycam footage from the authorities of the harrowing incident has been released and shows the moments first responders arrived to help the injured woman before trying to find her attacker.

Robin explained: "Gary brought her inside and closed the door to just kind of protect us for a minute. And she just kept saying 'he's gonna kill me. He's gonna kill me'. There was so much blood, I couldn't really tell where exactly it was coming from. It was coming from her head and her ears."

The quiet morning turned much more frantic at around 10am when the couple's doorbell began to ring like crazy, prompting Gary to head out to the door and check out what was going on.

When he opened the door he couldn't see anything at first, but after taking a step out and glancing to the left he noticed the young woman standing there with blood dripping down her face.

"But when I tried to hold her and move her because she started to slump forward, it was hurting her to hold her arms, to hold her. And then she went into shock and fell to the floor."

Despite struggling to stay conscious, the woman was able to tell her the couple and emergency services where she had been held captive.

Gig Harbor Police Chief Kelly Busey detailed how the young woman had been abducted by David Paul Ruffier, 66, a few days before she was found.

Police then make their way to his house, banging on the door, before one notices blood drops on the floor. Ruffier was found dead inside from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Chief Busey said: "It's tough because the victim in this case really doesn't have a lot of recollection, she doesn't even recall where she met the man or how long she had been at this location, that's becoming a little tough."
