Andre Onana insists Manchester United still need to be aiming to win every game, despite their valuable point away at Liverpool.

United suffered further blows in the lead-up to the trip to Anfield, with Bruno Fernandes suspended and Harry Maguire injured, but held on for a goalless draw. The result ended United's run of defeats, after back-to-back reverses against Bournemouth and Bayern Munich, while marking an improvement on the 7-0 humbling the visitors received in the corresponding fixture back in March.

Liverpool had the bulk of the big chances on Sunday, but United threatened on occasion and could have snatched all three points. The clean sheet was Onana's first since the end of November, helping secure United's first league draw of the campaign, but Onana is aiming higher.

“We are Manchester United, we are one of the biggest clubs in the world and, against every opponent we play, we want to win,” the Cameroon international told MUTV. “We got one point, we fight together, we show a lot of character, a lot of personality but it's not enough.

"We have to try to win the game. Unfortunately we didn't. We have to put the standard higher. Doesn't matter who we play, we have to go to win."

United's point means they sit seventh in the league going into Saturday's game against West Ham. The London side, managed by former United boss David Moyes, beat Erik ten Hag's men last season and sit just a point back after beating Wolves on Sunday.

“You know when you come to Anfield, it will be great going back home with the three points," Onana added. "But like I said, if you have the clean sheet it’s good but the most important thing is to win the game.

“It was a tough game of course, but being a part of this big club, you must win. We had some, not too many, chances but we couldn't score.

“So now, ahead of getting ready for the coming games, we have to look forward because it's not enough. We have to do much more.”

Liverpool registered 34 shots on Sunday, more than any other Premier League team has achieved in a game this season. Perhaps for this reason, home boss Jurgen Klopp wasn't too frustrated by the temporary damage to his team's title hopes.

"With that number of finishes a few more should have been on target," Klopp said. "It should have been more, but there were some things I liked. The counter pressing was the best with this group, the intensity and the start was probably our best so far.

"This today hurts, it is good, it gives us a lot of information as well and now we have to finish the situations off. Some situations were where we shot from distance when there was probably a player in a better position."
