Viggo Venn appeared on the Royal Variety Performance this evening on ITV after securing the gig as part of the prize for winning Britain's Got Talent a few months back

Viggo Venn made a joke about his controversial Britain's Got Talent win at the Royal Variety Performance tonight.

The comedian brought out a new routine for the special performance, which aired on ITV1 this evening, but his infamous high vis jackets were back as he performed a comedy routine for the Prince and Princess of Wales and another guests.

At the Britain's Got Talent final earlier this year, the comedian beat magician Cillian O’Connor, 14, and 13-year-old acrobatic dancer Lilliana Clifton in the final, claiming the top prize. Despite winning Britain's Got Talent, some people weren't impressed and he was famously booed by the audience when it was announced he had taken home the top prize.

On tonight's Royal Variety Performance, Viggo performed a new routine and even crowned 'King Charles' - a random man in the audience called Charles - and gave him a high vis jacket covered in gold as they all danced to One More Time.

When Viggo won a few months back, after the result was announced, some of the audience could be heard booing and viewers took to to give their thoughts. One wrote at the time: “By a stretch, that is the worst Britain's Got Talent result EVER. If that really is genuine, then the British voting public should be ashamed and embarrassed. Booing from the audience, and rightly so. Some real talent missed out there. Joke. #BGT2023 #BritainsGotTalent #BGT."

He later admitted he was "embarrassed" to win the show as he reacted to the booing controversy - but declared that it's "not his fault". He said: "I was kinda hoping I didn't win because it would be so embarrassing, but I was very happy when they said it the British public have such sense of ridiculous humour." Days after winning Britain’s Got Talent, Viggo pulled out of a daytime TV appearance following the booing backlash. The comedian was expected to give his first interview since his frosty reception to bagging the £250,000 prize money on the Lorraine Kelly Show, but cancelled at the last minute after falling ill.

Viggo had previously revealed he wanted to hand the iconic gold high vis to King Charles.

"My goal for the Royal Variety Performance is to get King Charles in a hi-vis. I’ve already presented a hi-vis to the mayor of my hometown and the British ambassador, so I’m working my way up," he told Radio Times.
