There are 10 points between Liverpool and Manchester United in the Premier League table but for fans of the Reds this Sunday's game will still represent the biggest of the season.

The 2-1 defeat to Union Saint-Gilloise in their final Europa League group game on Thursday will not have overly concerned Jurgen Klopp, given his side had already topped their group and fielded an under-strength side. But now a huge period awaits with the United game followed by a League Cup quarter final with West Ham and then a clash with Arsenal on December 23.

And by the time Liverpool kick-off at Anfield at 4.30pm, they could find themselves needing to win to go back top. Arsenal will displace them, temporarily at least, if they beat Brighton earlier in the day.

Here is all the latest news from Anfield.....

Salah's stance on Saudi transfer

Mohamed Salah is unlikely to leave Liverpool in the January transfer window, according to the Saudi Pro League's transfer chief.

"Mo Salah, like [Lionel] Messi, [Karim] Benzema, [Cristiano] Ronaldo and the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, these are players that when there is a sense of availability for them, we are willing to listen," the league's director of football Michael Emenalo, told Sky Sports News. "But we also understand that Mo is happy where he is at present and in a historic, wonderful club at Liverpool.

"We respect that very much and we don't want to come across as putting any pressure on him. But if there is any interest to do something, Mo Salah is a player that you want in your league, in any league."

Carragher calls for January transfer

Jamie Carragher has urged Liverpool to sign a specialist holding midfielder in the January transfer window to help Jurgen Klopp sustain their Premier League title challenge.

“Liverpool are top of the league and I am not really sure how,” Carragher wrote for the Telegraph. “The league table says one thing but my eyes tell me something else."

He added: "The balance of the team is still not quite right, and it is hard to imagine it will be without a ready-made defensive midfielder. The much talked about new midfield is not fully functioning yet, the trio of Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch impressing in moments rather than in back-to-back fixtures."

Man United duo ruled out of Anfield trip

Manchester United will be missing Harry Maguire and Anthony Martial for their Premier League match against Liverpool on Sunday.

"So Harry will not be available for the coming games but we don’t think it is a long term," Ten Hag said, in Friday's press conference. "Luke Shaw trained this morning, so we think he is available or Sunday. Marcus Rashford [is back], Martial not."

Shaw was forced off at half-time with an injury against Bayern, while Rashford missed the game due to an unspecified illness. With Maguire out injured, Shaw may be fielded in central defence once again at Anfield.
