'Creepy' optical illusion leaves people mystified as they can't figure it out
Optical illusions are funny things, because they can have you staring at the same picture for seconds, minutes, or even hours, and you still can't figure out what it is.
One particular optical illusion has left people baffled and confused about what exactly is going on in the "crazy" picture. The puzzles are usually designed to test our brain power, as not everyone finds them as easy to decipher.
The image was shared by @TheMuffReport on Instagram, who captioned it: "Why did it take my brain so long to figure out what was going on in this picture?" and it turned out they weren't the only ones.
It's hard to figure out (@themuffreport\\Instagram)People couldn't get over how long it took for their brains to figure out what was in the image, but there's a reason for that. For some, who have good "spacial attention" or are just "lucky" because their eyes fall where they're supposed to be, it'll be easy to see, according to Associate Professor Paul E Dux, from the School of Psychology at the University of Queensland. However, for others, they might stare at an image for ages without being able to see it.
You might be able to see that the image is of a dog in a harness - but many claimed picture was "creepy" because his eyes looked like they were in the wrong place. However, in order to decipher this optical illusion, you have to look at it from a different angle.
Mind-bending optical illusion makes your brain 'adjust' after 10 seconds
So if you're looking at this on your phone to the right and focus on the dog's harness. If you do this, you'll be able to see that the dog had just arched his back and turned his head to to the side.
Because the dog had turned his face, it looked for many as though one eye was in the wrong place - but it's actually just part of his mouth, from the side. People were baffled that their brains weren't able to spot this straight away.
One person wrote: "I'm not sure how long I'm supposed to look before I figure it out. But it hasn't happened yet," while a second commented: "Wow that took me way too long to figure out."
"Such a crazy optical illusion," added a third, while another said: "Wow, that was so confusing". A fifth added: "My brain hurts."
