Tuchel's honest thoughts on Man Utd job speak volumes ahead of awkward reunion
Thomas Tuchel can kill off Manchester United 's Champions Leagues hopes on Tuesday night - 18 months on from dismissing reports linking him with the top job at Old Trafford.
Tuchel, 50, was in situ at Chelsea when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked by the Red Devils back in November in 2021. Ralf Rangnick was handed the reins on an interim basis while the United hierarchy plotted their next move and it was understood that Tuchel was of interest back in March 2022.
The German was reportedly shortlisted for the vacancy alongside Erik ten Hag and a handful of other elite coaches, including Luis Enrique and Mauricio Pochettino. But Tuchel couldn't have been clearer: he had no appetite to entertain such interest.
Spelling out his commitment to Chelsea at the time, Tuchel said on links to United: "I have actually no reaction at all. Do you feel me less committed to the club or less involved in the club? Absolutely not.
"I have said many times that I love to be here and this club has everything it needs to make me happy. There is no need. We have plenty of reasons to stay at the moment.

"I do my best and I've felt the support here in the club since day one. That makes me feel safe and then I do my best to play my role and push things forward."

Thomas Tuchel refused to entertain speculation linking him with Manchester United during his Chelsea tenure (FC Bayern Munich)Tuchel would find himself out of a job just six months after those comments in controversial circumstances, but the former Chelsea chief has landed on his feet at Bayern Munich.
After guiding the German giants to the Bundesliga title last season, Tuchel is aiming to emulate the Champions League glory he achieved at Stamford Bridge in Munich. His side are already through as group winners, but it's a different story for Manchester United.
Having seen his side lose three of their five matches in Group A, Ten Hag knows only a win against Bayern will give them any chance of qualifying for the knockout phase. Even if they beat Tuchel and co, they'll be relying on results elsewhere to make that a reality.
Another poor result, coupled with elimination from Europe, would spell bad news for Ten Hag, who is under significant pressure. The Dutchman enjoyed a fine maiden season at the helm but has overseen United's worst start to the season in decades.
Defeat against Bayern and then another poor result against arch-rivals Liverpool would leave Ten Hag in a perilous position ahead of the festive fixtures. And it could well be Tuchel who nudges him closer towards the point of no return.
